Does the accent matter?

Tbh I don’t know if this should go here so sorry mods if I put it in the wrong place but I wasn’t sure where it should go.

So basically, I’m British, I would usually write using British spellings, however my story is set in America, with an all American cast, does it matter whether I use British or American spellings?

  • No it doesn’t, just write using whatever spellings you feel comfortable using.
  • It does matter! If you are writing about people who speak using American English, then you should spell things the American way.
  • Only sometimes, try and spell dialogue in American English but narrator notes don’t matter

I don’t have an issue with writing using American English, I just want to know if I should be bothered going back through my script and changing it lol
