I forgot to say this earlier, but regarding the use of the plus size body in future user content:
Somebody’s weight really isn’t anybody else’s business and people thinking they need to tell them how to be healthy has built up and reinforced the fatphobia in modern culture brick by brick. Weight isn’t a true indicator of health. People believing that it is contributes to the problem of medical care professionals attributing everything to weight rather than looking deeper for the real issue. Fatphobia takes lives.
We don’t need more weight loss fiction. We need stories about plus size people who get to be characters with an arc that isn’t about weight, who are MCs or at least three-dimensional characters that aren’t just being used for diversity clout.
Ik! I was trying to come up with a few conservative outfits for a few characters but the pickings are slim.
As for the new body type, I NEEDALL of the SWIMWEAR that’s out (and more) for our Plus Size Queens!!! I wear two pieces so I want to see my girls in one too!
Same! I am assuming that they will be making new wardrobes for the new body type? I can imagine some pretty revealing glitches ( especially since we can’t even layer the clothes we have properly) what would happen if we put them on a plus sized figure.
Yeah they will have to make a separate closet just for the plus-size body type, that’s why I do t think they will give us more than one new body type because it’s going take a lot of time to not only make new clothing assets but to also make sure the animations run smoothly and that the new body type is not as limited as Fat Amy was in Pitch Perfect.
Some people think that people on the bigger size are either lazy and/or just pile on the junk, they don’t realize that things like healthy issue also cause people to gain weight. Pills that people take for things like anxiety, bipolar or other psychiatric disorders cause people to gain weight. Having an underactive thyroid causes you to gain weight due to having a hormonal imbalance. People on the bigger sized should want to lose weight for themselves and not for the prejudiced that society creates.
The BMI scale is an outdated medical scale that does not take individual’s personal medical history into account.
Also just because a person is skinny doesn’t mean they are healthy, so people who equate skinniness to being healthy are dead wrong and being skinny also doesn’t equate to being happy, loved, self-important and/or self-loved.
Sarcasm Alert, I can’t wait to read stories about a plus-size MC being bullied and harassed to only come back after the summer break to not only be 100 pounds (45.4 kg) lighter and not only have no excess skin that needs to be removed but has a brand new expensive closet filled with skinny clothing.
I’m honestly really happy about this, especially considering that a lot of us have characters that we imagine as plus size (including me) but we cant properly represent them. Hopefully we get something in between too. Since I hate how the guys are all super muscular and have really tiny legs.
And since I love to complain, I’m gonna actually give them props this time. Episode you did a good job!
I am so excited about this! But yeah… prepare for things like this:
And let’s not forget about invented and senseless words like fatphobia
Personally, I fear not “weight” stories. Those are realistic in most cases, just like fat people themselves because, well, both exist. That said, yes, I would love even more to see overweight characters that are not defined by their weight. At the end of the day, it is up to writers to create their characters. A fat character who is insecure? Sure, why not? A fat character who is bullied and their journey? This happens a lot, especially among teenagers. A confident or indifferent fat character? Gimme!!!
I just hope the use will be balanced. That is all.
Well done, Episode! Now you had better handle the wardrobe for this body correctly when this is out! And by that I mean: I want to see new clothes for it as often as possible
I’m kind of curious how they’re making the clothes now Because certain ones are repeats of outfits we already have so are they like… warped versions of the skinny body clothing? Is that why the clothes on this new body look a little bit off? It might be a redraw.
I’m totally with you on everything else, though I’ll respectfully disagree with this small section.
Like you’re saying above, being skinny doesn’t mean somebody is necessarily healthy or have any of the things people like to associate with thinness. You can exercise regularly, eat healthy, and generally just be a healthier person than your skinny friends without naturally losing much weight. But because people equate size with the state of your health, that gets lost on them.
I just feel hesitant about saying things that prioritize weight loss, I think? Like if people are healthy, then weight loss doesn’t need to come into the equation. Because people don’t tend to say things like “they need to stop eating junk food for themselves” if the person in question is skinny. We, in the sense of culture and on a wider scale, tend to shrug off unhealthiness in others as long as that person looks the way we deem attractive or even just acceptable.
And I think because of that, fatphobia tends to cause certain negative effects on skinny or sickly people as well. Because if somebody is suffering from illness and losing weight because of it, it doesn’t feel good to get reactions along the lines of “oh, you’ve lost weight! you look amazing now” regardless of innocent intentions from family and friends.
Just wanted to share some thoughts I was mulling over. I feel like we generally feel the same about this!
Listen, I’ve been thinking about just using the pregnancy shirts and rounder face until this is released. I have a character who will be introduced in my wip but she’s the cousin of the MC and will eventually have a story were she’s one of the MC’s… Idk how well received it’ll be but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
I was thinking of doing that too with my story but I changed it last minute as I wanted more clothing options. I just mention it very subtly here and there in the dialogue sometimes.
Since I can put off writing her story, I may just do that since she’s not a MC for this first fic. The few options is fine for now… Which brings me to question, how they plan to do the pregnancy clothes for the Plus Size? I’m trying to imagine how they’ll work that out…
I have a story that I’d want to use that body type in, because the character has Cancer, and it looks wierd when it’s just a large face, and a super skinny body…
To be fair, it is in INK, but I’ve been wanting to turn it into LL, because some people have been asking.
And the story V-Card by @CoraMae has a plus-sized character, but she has to use maturnity shirts to make it more believable than just having the larger face.
I’m so excited to have a plus-sized character for the female version of limelight, it’s something I haven’t thought of but now that it’s here, I think it’s the perfect addition to Episode stories. Not all characters have perfect golden ratio model bodies, and I only think it’s fair if plus-sized characters get to have a say too.
I agree with everyone, we don’t need makeover stories, but I personally wouldn’t deny the “bullied girl loses weights and suddenly everyone is interested in her” trope because lookism is very common irl.
Now that I think about it, I think a realistic story tackling on appearance-based-discrimination would be nice to see.
I think a great spin on the bullied fat girl story would be that she was skinny and popular but after a tragic event (family member death, boyfriend cheating, etc) she turns to food for comfort and gains weight, so when she returns to school people start treating her different (friends no longer want to hang out, she’s no longer head cheerleader, classmates don’t admire her anymore, boys stop checking her out, no longer invited to parties) and she finds out that her looks and popularity were her only personality traits and now she has to find out who she really is without her looks
