Episode has a “plus sized character”

I agree that I think the trope could be used for good. Maybe instead of having everyone love the skinny girl and she’s finally “happy”, she realizes that their love is only superficial. And she goes back to the friends/LI who loved her before and didn’t care about the way she looked. A story that shows being “skinny” or looking the way society wants you to, will not be what makes you happy.

I think a story centered around finding your self worth or falling in love with yourself is needed on this app.

This is the plot of that Debbie Ryan show Satisfied.

I thought it was about a phsyco girl who wanted revenge.

That’s what I was about to say :joy::joy: I watched Insatiable and what I described is not the direction they went in. The main character never really finds that “self love” and instead tries to get revenge on everyone who hurt her. But I did only watch season one!

I’m talking more along the lines of the movie “Dumplin”.

I wanna make a story about a fat girl who wish to be skinny and popular. and her wish comes true. but suddendly her life is f up. also she finds out the guy she has a crush on is into big girls not thin. and then he or someone els comes into an axedent. and she can only save him by getting her old life back. and then she actually ends up dateing that guy

I’m excited about the concept of different body sizes being available, but I’m really not excited about how these characters will be used.

Regarding “makeover” stories, both those that have a traditional “fat girl gets skinny” narrative and those that attempt to subvert the trope by having the fat character realise she was loved already are missing some points for me and, realistically, end up reinforcing the same theme. And that theme is that there’s a negative moral implication to fatness. I’m also using the word “fat” intentionally because saying “big” or “plus-size” also reinforce the idea that fatness is inherently negative. Being fat is neither a mood nor a personality trait. All of these kinds of stories say that either being fat is gross and you should change OR you can still be loved “despite” being fat - as if fat people are not inherently worthy of interpersonal and communal love.

One thing that comes up a lot is that weight is not a measure of health. Which is true. But also…it doesn’t matter. Whether you’re healthy or not, regardless of weight, shouldn’t be a contributing factor to your right to exist as you are whether or not you love yourself. Nobody owes others an explanation of their health. As someone who suffers from chronic illness, I will never be “healthy” no matter what size I am. Feats of athleticism should be celebrated, no doubt, but it has no bearing on how people should be allowed to exist in the world. If you are thinking about having a fat MC, consider developing them as a whole person and write their interactions with others with the same care and consideration you would with a thin MC. There are differences in the way you experience and are experienced by the world if you are fat - and I think those things can and should be present in a story, but reinforcing that people have to love themselves before others can love them is damaging. We are all worthy and deserving of love regardless of how we feel about ourselves.

Additionally, what I think is more likely to happen than makeover stories is having a thin MC with mostly thin friends and one fat friend who will be there to provide comedic relief when she’s not feeling insecure about her weight. I don’t want MCs who feel the need to reassure their ~one fat friend~ that they’re cool and lovable despite being fat for Woke Points™. Honestly would rather have authors just skip this character altogether lol. Part of that is my dislike of underdeveloped “diverse” friends for the sake of appearing to value diversity, as well.

All that is to say - there could be a lot of opportunities to do great things with this character, and there are a lot of things to keep in mind about how different sized bodies are perceived. It gets more complicated when you examine the ways in which fatantagonism intersect with race, class, and disability as well. Not that every narrative will be or has to be perfect, but the messages we send (intentionally or unintentionally) are important to consider.

It looks the same on my portal. But, oh shit :eyes: I was really hoping they would take time to develop the style more. Like blending out the neck and fixing the arms. I wonder if this is coming soon

Edit: Maybe they are beta testing it and you happen to be picked. I don’t see that green dress in my portal.

I don’t see this yet but it’s happeninggggg :eyes:

I- I have something to say in regards to this but I think it’s off topic so um

I am kind of surprised with how they have done this. I thought that if they were going to release this to the general public, that they would do it similar to how they implemented the assets for Trans females.

Seeing a drop down for “generic female”, “plus female” and “generic male” though… makes me feel a certain type of way. Specifically because within the “generic male” drop down, there is assets for trans females. I hope Episode updates this portion of it, if they really are going to roll it out this way. But I’m sure that will cause glitches in itself too, so um yeah, idk, what my point to this was, it was just my first thought upon seeing the drop down.

Just saw this. I guess the announcement must be coming soon?

Yeah, I personally feel pretty uncomfortable seeing feminine assets (since they were originally released under the LGBT+ pride update specifically) going under the “generic male” dropdown. Not that men can’t wear items that are socially considered feminine, but when you put things like this under the umbrella of trans assets and framing them - considering the torso shape - as someone who would like to pass, it feels icky? I really would like to see them change this or find a better solution.

Separating the plus clothes (since the ones we have currently would not work with this body) makes sense to me, because the more assets that are released for it, the messier it will get and the more we’ll need organization. I just wish they would fix the labeling issue for the other assets.

I do like that they have a couple special items here. Some sexy or colorful pieces as opposed to all of them being plainer items like tank tops and jeans.

They have a few new faces I think. Square soft was not there before.

Wow, then I didn’t expect Episode to do it soon :flushed:

I got it now. This was sooner than expected but hey, they’re doing what people wanted. It may not be what people wanted 100% off the bat but maybe they’ll improve over time.

Has anyone tested them out in a scene yet? I want to see if everything goes smoothly
