Episode is Updating Our Content Guidelines

The guidelines say to use MPAA standards for what is excessive and needs to be censored. I don’t think hell or damn need to be censored, though Episode may have done it in some stories as a personal choice.

I haven’t even read the story past the first episode (and I don’t even think I finished that) so I have no idea what curse words were even used in it. I’m just trying to help where I can. I don’t consider hell or damn curse words really either but if we’re “thinking of the 13 year olds” we might have to consider them.
Though, as I mentioned above: I think certain words might be on an opinion basis. Meaning you can censor them but you don’t necessarily have to.

I mean, you can censor the word “cupcake” if you wanted, but you don’t have to. I’m quite sure I remember seeing someone get confirmation that hell, ass, and damn were OK, but now I can’t recall who/where. In any case, if we’re “thinking of the thirteen year olds,” even shit is allowed in a PG-13 movie, and technically one fuck is as well, so if I’m going to scale down my censoring to be a bit stricter than that, I’m not keen to scale it all the way down to being G rated. I added asterisks to shit and fuck, but I’m leaving my hells, and if they want to make me edit my story because of an uncensored “What the hell?” they’re welcome to fulfill the role of my third grade teacher and do that.

I think you might be missing the point.

I just meant I think those words (hell, damn) are probably on an opinion basis. Censor them if you want. You don’t have to. I’m also not saying anyone has to do anything.

Personally I probably will just because I’d rather be safe than sorry (and to me adding an asterisk to damn isn’t that big of a deal)

I didn’t miss that point because I literally said it.

Which is pretty much what I said earlier anyway?:sweat_smile:

I don’t know why you seem to think I don’t agree with that. My point is that this is a theory we both have. I don’t believe those things need to be censored, but that’s just a logical belief based on my piecing clues together, and nowhere in the guidelines does it say “Hell is fine.” All I said was that if it turns out not to be the case, I won’t have prepared for that scenario because I find it juvenile.

that’s actually a good question , but to answer you , i don’t think it’ allowed cause the main reason for the new guidelines is to make the app suitable for kids

For knives I think it depends. It seems like it might be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

They’re probably trying to weed out the weak ones.

What about the “show don’t tell” thing?

People are always like “uGh i hAte stOrieS tHat TelL mE wHat hAppeNs liKe omFg sHowiNg iT is bEtter” but now we can’t do that…

Hello. What is a support ticket?

lots of very mature content, even foot fetishes

Episode team: We are tightening up the guidelines as our stories should be suitable even for newborn babies!
Also Episode: releases just another story which is focused on hot sexy guys; making out with everything that moves; talks about threesome (I am sorry??). etc., etc.

You can have hot guys, you can have characters making out and you can reference threesomes.
Threesomes are not really orgies.

Here is just a thought why don’t episodes come out with an 18+ Episode for adult writer’s and adult readers and have one for episodes for 17 and under. And the adult episodes can be on by birthday age. Or something in that nature so everyone is happy. And the writer’s don’t have to worry about content. Just a thought

I’ve got a question if anyone has the answer but are we allowed swearing abbreviations? If that makes any sense.
