Episode is Updating Our Content Guidelines

I did read it and who knows how long that will take. Authors are already leaving because of these guidelines. But in the end it is what it is. The app got popular because of the readers and the user authors and if they lose some of them they just do. :woman_shrugging:t4:

Why can’t u have guns in a cover maybe its an action story or something else, im really upset that u can’t have nothing in you’re story anymore
13 year olds are mature enough to read this type of stuff even 10 year olds i think u should let us have more creativity and if they don’t like what they se on the app then they could delet it im not saying u should have sex overlays but we authors need more freedom

They wont “lose” anyone…

You’ll simply be “moved” to the other app (if it happens) intended for older audiances

These are two different things you’re saying. The app is NOT for kids. The app is for anyone 13 and older. The app should have kid friendly content? That’s true.

Take a horror movie I love as an example. The Others is rated PG-13. It’s not FOR an audience of 13-year-olds. That’s not the target demo. It’s just made safe for them if they choose to watch it. The guidelines still leave a lot of room for including mature content that appeals to adults. It’s just how it’s handled that is regulated with child eyes in mind.

You are nitpicking…
Yes, any age can read or write here above the age of thirteen… but the content must be suitable to the minimum age limit, thus its a PG-13 (kid-friendly) app.

I strongly suggest you all find movies that are rated pg13 as a base. For example: The Notebook is rated pg13

I’m not nitpicking. There’s tons of inaccurate flailing from people about how Episode is demanding we all basically write Dora the Explorer. Having people who support the guidelines frame it in the way you did could contribute to that misunderstanding.

Also 13 year olds aren’t 10. They know things happen and things exist. Episode simply just doesn’t want us all making 50 shades spin offs. :woman_shrugging:t2::woman_facepalming:t2: It’s not that complicated folks.

Key word if it happens and it’s a business and a business will always have losses. People don’t have to agree and they can choose to move on. I could understand if they rolled out the app at the same time they did the guidelines that would make more sense. But they didn’t. :woman_shrugging:t4:

I actually have feeling you do not understand what I say. I absolutely agree with you thay you need villains to act mean.story, where all will be nice, would be most likely plain and dull.
and I also agree that it is essential to show it not only to talk about it…MC only saying to her friends that her mom is calling her names has not such an impact when you show such a scene.

Problem is thatfrom now on you can show villians who are not parents but you can’t show such parents…if you can’t show parental abuse you can’t show even thing which were in Harry Potter - if Harry potter would be episode story you would only read narrators about it but you would never seen scene where his “step parents” tell him the mean things BECAUSE THIS IS PARENTAL ABUSE.

So you can make bad boy tell him all the thing but parents cant anymore - you simply cant anymore SHOW abusive parents you cant write scenes where thay say or do anything abusive, you can only make MC tell later in school their friens …so for parental abuse there is no “show me”

You put Harry potter as a good example of how it should be done in +13 films. I agree but what I say that this films are NOT withing the rules of the episode - so if the film should be 100% on the episode rule - no parental abuse there would be all this scenes censored - do you get me now?

most pg 13 movies include mild swearing

That was literally just a picture I found. Quit trying to start useless arguments when I’m just trying to help people.

How is that trying to start an argument? :joy: what?

Let’s stay on topic. Has anyone asked episode about things and gotten a reply back yet?

Pretty little liars is 12+ that’s inappropriate on wattpad after was meant for 18 year olds but 13 year olds made the author get 1 billion reads and now she has a movie deal. What about the kissing booth?

I disagree. Your perception could also be blamed, yes?

Let me clarify to avoid further “confusion” about what this:

The app is for kids… period.
The app should ONLY have KID FRIENDLY content… period

means…

The app is for PG-13 content… period.
The app was meant for ages 13+ (for kids ages 13 and older)
The app should not contain anything outside of this scope.
The app was not intended for young adult content.
The app CAN be used by people older than thirteen, but that does not mean you can write specifically FOR that age.

Dora the explorer is not PG-13 content, and I never said Dora the Explorer should be your goal.
Your GOAL should be to write content that is appropriate for a 13 year old, (and not by YOUR idea of what a thirteen year old should or should not read… by actual guidelines)
I am unsure how my statement equates to writing for toddlers.

Don’t write stuff that a thirteen year old kid should not be reading.

So about the no guns in our covers thing…what about other lethal weapons? Like swords?

They show swords in Disney movies… so I guess that would be okay. But just to be sure, you can always ask the team.
