TBH, I don’t know if yall are sick of getting these questions. I might update this with more questions when they come up.
Hey there guys! I would love you guys’ opinions on these burning questions that I’ve had for a while and it would mean a lot if y’all could answer them!
What id your optimal episode length? Less than 10 minutes or more?
Would you still keep reading if a story went from 5- 15 minutes in length?
What do you prefer in your story? Advanced directing and OLs? Good plot and character development?
Would you rather play and female or male MC? Or do you not care?
If a story had no music or sounds, would you continue/still read it?
What will convince you to keep reading a story? Good plot, tons of cliffhangers, etc?
If I made a playlist for y’all to listen to while reading, would y’all listen to it?
What convinces you to read a story?
What traits do you look for in an LI and MC?
Biggest peeve with reading a story? (Bad grammar, off directing, cringy plot?)
Thanks for answering them if you can! I hope y’all are having a good day/night!
If you have any other tips, opinions, or thoughts, feel free to share them! It will be appreciated!
I’d rather have a good plot and character development. I don’t really read stories for the overlays and impressive directing, I think it’s just a plus if a story has that:)
It depends.
Yes, I never have the sound on, I find the music distracting.
Definitely good plot/ cliffhangers.
I don’t know, maybe?
What convinces me is the description.
For the LI interest, if he’s an asshole in the beginning but he goes through major character development , then it’s fine. As long as he’s not hurting the MC. For the MC, I really don’t like stories where the MC is a “weak girl” that needs her friends to defend her from the popular bully girls. I also like when they’re not only tough girls, it’s just not realistic. Humans don’t just have one personality trait.
Biggest pet peeve, I’m pretty sure I have many but I just can’t think of any right now I don’t mind grammar that much, unless I have to re read the sentence many times to get what they’re trying to say, but I understand not every authors first language is English. It’s amazing that they can write a whole story in English when it isn’t even their first language.
I like 15 or so minutes per episode, but (probably an unpopular opinion lol) I’m also fine with longer chapters, as long as they’re interesting!
If it was amazing, yes, but 5 minute chapters in an otherwise just good story would be a dealbreaker for me, I think.
I like advanced directing and OLs, but I’d prefer a good plot and great characters any day! Spotlight stories or those like Deumadiri (not sure about the spelling haha) that don’t have complex spotting and all of that but have a great plot are totally fine with me, but well-directed stories without compelling characters are not.
I prefer female MCs, but if a story is good I’ll play a male too!
Yep, I don’t usually play with sound anyways haha, unless the story is thriller/mystery and the music helps build the atmosphere.
Definitely a good plot, no spelling/grammar mistakes, original ideas, and characters who are complex and not annoying (unless they’re meant to be). If there’s a faux cliffhanger every chapter (like mysterious figure who turns out to just be the best friend, like every chapter), then that becomes frustrating, but real cliffhangers are great!
That’s a great idea! Tbh, whether I listened would probably depend on if I liked your songs, but I say go for it!
No grammar mistakes in the description!
I’m shallow so I like LL, at least limited CC (unless I love the character design) and multiple LIs, but there are a ton of people (maybe even a majority) who don’t, so don’t take that as advice haha.
a good mystery or at least suspense
a promising looking cover
an original idea
This varies depending on the story, but I’m a sucker for rivals to lovers or a slow burn. I like MCs who have a personality, especially those who are witty or determined. For LIs, I do have personality preferences, but I think that will come down to the reader’s individual taste, so idk how much I can say.
Yep, bad grammar/spelling. Not that it reflects badly on the author necessarily, but it’s just hard for me to be immersed in a story with multiple spelling/grammar mistakes. I’m also so over the mafia trope lol
I prefer longer episodes, I won’t use my passes on a story if I can’t really get a good grasp of the plotline in the first chapter
Only if it really captures my attention.
Character development and generally just the characters are the most important thing to me. Of course a good plot is important too. If the overlays are good that’s just a plus, but it’s not the main reason I’m gonna keep reading a story.
I like Male MCs because there’s not many of them, so I’m typically more interested when seeing one of those. But it doesn’t really matter to me as long as the plot and the characters are interesting.
I rarely turn on sound, so it doesn’t really matter to me.
Good plot definetly and as I’ve mentioned before good characters. If the characters seem too two dimensional or flat that is one of the biggest turn offs for me in a story.
I would probably. But if it became too distracting I would turn it off.
The cover first needs to capture my interest. Then if the description sounds compelling or is about something Im interested in, I’ll give the first episode a shot, sometimes less if I find it uninteresting quickly or boring.
I don’t want them to be ‘quirky’, perfect or just the center of attention in every room they’re in. I’ve seen so many MCs that’s always in the spotlight and for some reason ‘special’ or ‘different’. I just want them to be realistic and have their own issues to deal with like everyone.
Well grammar is one, if it’s very bad, but mostly if there’s plotholes or unrealistic situations actually. For example I’ve seen so many prison stories on episode recently that just has these female/male prisons or female guards in male prisons which just completely throws me off.
What id your optimal episode length? Less than 10 minutes or more?
12-15 minutes.
Would you still keep reading if a story went from 5- 15 minutes in length?
Depends on how engaging the plot is. 5 minute long chapters make me feel like I’m wasting a pass. I don’t mind long chapters as long as they’re engaging and flow well. Some stories I’ve enjoyed very long chapters because they don’t seem long because the story flows so well.
What do you prefer in your story? Advanced directing and OLs? Good plot and character development?
Great plot, good directing, good character development, good grammar.
Sorry, but I need the total package.
Would you rather play and female or male MC? Or do you not care?
Don’t care. I’ve enjoyed stories with both MCs. I don’t read stories as if I’m in the story. I read the author’s work of art.
If a story had no music or sounds, would you continue/still read it?
Yeah, cause depending on my own setting, sometimes I turn the music down.
What will convince you to keep reading a story? Good plot, tons of cliffhangers, etc?
The plot, characters, grammar, and directing. If it’s not the whole package… sorry.
If I made a playlist for y’all to listen to while reading, would y’all listen to it?
Probably not.
What convinces you to read a story?
Honestly, recommendations from friends, authors I enjoy, and certain review groups. I have found that amazing cover does not equal amazing story… just the author had money. Description is hard, because authors are limited to a character limit. I trust the opinion of individuals with similar interests, and look at reviews from Instagram groups like Axiom and Advocates.
What traits do you look for in an LI and MC?
MC: Realistic and relatable. Don’t make them perfect, because nobody is perfect.
LI: Not a toxic, abusive, cliche bad boy. They need flaws, but don’t make them a complete jerk.
Biggest peeve with reading a story? (Bad grammar, off directing, cringy plot?)
Slow moving, underdeveloped, unrealistic plot (even fantasy stories have to have a realistic plot)… like the story has no real sense of direction.
What is your optimal episode length? Less than 10 minutes or more?
More than 10 but less than 20
Would you still keep reading if a story went from 5- 15 minutes in length?
Yep, I think I’d prefer a shorter episode to a super lengthy one
What do you prefer in your story? Advanced directing and OLs? Good plot and character development?
I’d read both depending on how good those aspects are but I do like a good level of directing, if the plot and character development is amazing but the directing is horrible, I wouldn’t read it
Would you rather play and female or male MC? Or do you not care?
I don’t mind either
If a story had no music or sounds, would you continue/still read it?
Yeah, why not? But if I had to include preferences, I’d prefer music and sounds!
What will convince you to keep reading a story? Good plot, tons of cliffhangers, etc?
The plot has to be moving and I guess cliffhangers do play a big role too
If I made a playlist for y’all to listen to while reading, would y’all listen to it?
No
What convinces you to read a story?
The description definitely catches me first! And if I’m still unsure, I try the first episode and it has to hook me right away, otherwise, I probably won’t continue
What traits do you look for in an LI and MC?
They’re both strong individuals who don’t need ‘saving’ and I guess I’d just like them to be realistic with flaws and all
Biggest peeve with reading a story? (Bad grammar, off directing, cringy plot?)
Cringy dialogue, irrelevant scenes, slow directing (especially walking, zooms, transitions, imo, it’s unnecessary to show these for more than a second)
I usually prefer a bit over 10 minutes. Depending on the story, that can vary from around 12 - 20 for me.
If it’s 5 minutes long, the plot really has to capture my attention, but I don’t have an issue if it’s over 10 minutes anyway.
Good plot and character development is more important to me than advanced directing. Advanced directing is a bonus, but not always necessary.
I quite like when the perspectives are switched, so it doesn’t solely focus on one person.

If a story had no music or sounds, would you continue/still read it?
[/quote]
Music’s nice, but I’m not going to stop reading a story just because of the lack of music/sound effects.
A cliffhanger is always nice at the end of the chapter, but a well planned out plot is usually the biggest deal for me.
Definitely!
When the correct grammar is used in the description and the first episode has somewhat interesting language, settings, plot etc. it can be pretty hard to portray your story’s full plot in the first chapter, so I’m not too fussed about that.
It really depends on the story, but not too many cliche features or stereotypical behaviours. For character progression, I also prefer when they’re not ‘perfect’ at the start and that they improve over the course of the story.
2: the lenght arent a reason I would leave a story.
3: a good plot. good directing. charatere devolpment
dont care
5 good plot. I hate cliffhangers. episode often make bad ones, also often you have to wait mounths. you should have a few but not in evry single chapter
6 look at 3
7 no
first that its in the genre I like, a good title and maybe cover will make me look, the description have to sell. but I prefore a description there explain what this is about, I hate the crytic ones where after reading it I still have no clue
that depends on the plot. I like a charatere who actually live up to what they say she is. often stories say this is my charatere she has this personality, procide to not do anything like that. she is a neard, do nothing neardy the entire story. she dosent like going to party, first episode ends with her at a party. she is a fighter, needs rescue all the time.
10 boring plot, many stories are so boring its just talk and nothing really happens
I like my chapters less than 10 minutes just because I tend to never finish chapters that take too long. Especially if it’s only a filler chapter, or nothing big on plot. I’d say ideal is around 8 minutes for me.
As long as it’s important to the plot, and not just unnecessary narrating, then of course.
Most important to me is character development. It’s important in every story and I love to see it. I don’t mind normal or advanced directing.
I don’t mind either.
I don’t even read my story with sound on, I find it distracting sometimes.
Good plot, for sure. Cliffhangers are always good, as long as they have a lasting effect on the story, not just a misleading ending to a chapter.
Personally no, but I like the idea. Especially when you are trying to set a certain tone to the story.
I like choices matter stories, knowing there’s romance even if it’s not the main plot, inclusivity, but overall just a good plot with potential.
When the MC has a personality, whether it’s set or you let the reader shape it. I hate MCs that don’t have character. Same with LI.
Biggest pet peeve is when stories are just flat. No real plot, no real conflict, character’s don’t talk or act how people do in real life. Just overall innacuracy.
What id your optimal episode length? Less than 10 minutes or more?
10+ minutes
Would you still keep reading if a story went from 5- 15 minutes in length?
Yes, I would still keep reading!
What do you prefer in your story? Advanced directing and OLs? Good plot and character development?
I prefer in my story is advanced directing and a good plot
Would you rather play and female or male MC? Or do you not care?
A female MC
If a story had no music or sounds, would you continue/still, read it?
Yeah, I would still read it, sometimes I read stories with music and I would sometimes turn it down so it doesn’t matter to me if it has music/sound or not!
What will convince you to keep reading a story? Good plot, tons of cliffhangers, etc?
Cliffhangers
If I made a playlist for y’all to listen to while reading, would y’all listen to it?
Yes I will listen to it
What convinces you to read a story?
The genre and the story description-
What traits do you look for in an LI and MC?
As long as there not a jerk all the time, I’m good
Maybe Kindhearted or stubborn
Biggest peeve with reading a story? (Bad grammar, off directing, cringy plot?)
Whenever I look in the app for a story to read…all I see is cliches
But what’s the biggest peeve when I read a story… it’s so predictable because it’s cringy and cliche
What is your optimal episode length? Less than 10 minutes or more? I enjoy reading stories that are about 8-12 minutes usually. I daydream way too easily, and unless the author changes the camera angle or background/music frequently I tend to zone out of what I’m reading
Would you still keep reading if a story went from 5- 15 minutes in length? Of course! I think each story has its own perfect chapter length, and if 5 or 35 minutes is what makes your story shine then I totally support it!
What do you prefer in your story? Advanced directing and OLs? Good plot and character development?
as a writer: I much prefer to code complex scenes over writing an emotional or difficult scene.
as a reader: I think it depends on the style! something interesting I’ve noticed is when reading in limelight, I read the words simultaneously with watching their animations, but with ink and especially with classic I read the words then after I’m finished reading look at the characters animation. For me, the directing in ink and classic is secondary to the narration so I guess for those I would say character development.
Would you rather play and female or male MC? Or do you not care? I don’t think I would mind either, there aren’t many male MC stories so its hard to say. But plenty of great movies and books are from a male MC’s perspective so I don’t see why episode would be any different.
If a story had no music or sounds, would you continue/still read it? Maybe. But I would be so sad. I really like the little mood-setting music tracks.
What will convince you to keep reading a story? Good plot, tons of cliffhangers, etc? This is hard… but I continue reading a story if it’s central topic is something that interests me. There’s plenty of stories out there that are incredibly well written and directed but I just could never get into because their main topic just isn’t my cup of tea
If I made a playlist for y’all to listen to while reading, would y’all listen to it? Yes!
What convinces you to read a story? Hearing recommendations from others usually make me want to read their story
What traits do you look for in an LI and MC?
*I really like stories where the mc is just an endless stream of consciousness because like, same . and ugh the li wow this is tough. i love when theyre charming and quick-witted.
Biggest peeve with reading a story? (Bad grammar, off directing, cringy plot?) I feel kind of off when the characters say/do things that are too silly or exaggerated.
9-12 minutes. I don’t want it to feel like it’s being dragged (unless it’s like the first episode or something then you have a reason for a longer episode) for no reason.
A story better have a damn good reason for being 5 minutes. 8 ^ should be the minimum, unless your story is intended to be short for a GOOD reason.
Advanced directing, Good plot, well written characters. All I ask for.
I don’t care, but I prefer female most of the time.
Yes, I would as long as it’s a good story.
Cliffhangers are what keep readers on their toes, and it has to be something that readers care about, so…
Well, I’m not sure lol.
The description, and cover. If the cover looks like effort has been put into it, I will then look at the description. The description usually tells me what type of writer they are, (such as grammar, punctuation, e.t.c)
They don’t have to be a “good” character per se but they have to be written well. Meaning they can make mistakes, and those around them shouldn’t have to forgive them just because their the “MC” of the story. In real life, nobody cares. They should have their own life.
Overused sentences, overused plot, off-directing, grammar is okay (I can understand if you aren’t a native speaker), cringy or annoying MC’s.
