I think dictionaries are there for a reason. If they didn’t define words, they wouldn’t really have a purpose! But also, Zimbabwe, India and South Africa are examples contrary to the pre-established belief… then, of course, Slavs.
Also, I think that they aren’t always oppressed for the same reason that they’re privileged. I mean, there are genuine cases where white people are attacked, disadvantaged and discriminated against systematically. That may not be the case in America, but I can give you countries where it is.
For example, white Zimbabweans experienced eviction and ethnic cleansing simply because of the colour of their skin.
“I do not know how people like these type of scenes”
Mmhmm… I think you’ll understand when you get older. Not that I don’t disagree with you, but I do think that Authors need to have MORE Caution when they’re write their stories. For instances, making sure they always have a WARNING label at the beginning of the story. If you see that, then DON’T read it. Orrrrr if they get up to a sexual scene, have it BE a Choice so that younger readers can skip it. That’s what I’m going to do with my stories. In fact, if I do have sexual scene content in my stories, I’ll probably have it be a GEM choice so that it’ll be harder for younger readers to access if they don’t have enough gems.
I’m reminding you guys again to stay on topic. If you would like to create a separate thread holding the theme accordingly, then please feel free to do so and continue your debate there.
I meant in this case in specific. Just because a book says that racism is discrimination against someone because of their race doesn’t mean that it’s that simple. Also, “they aren’t always oppressed for the same reason that they’re privileged” kind of contradicts “there are genuine cases where white people are attacked, disadvantaged and discriminated against systematically”. White people are privileged because they’re white, therefore they can’t be opressed for being white. As for your examples - that’s what they are. Specific examples, isolated cases. I’m talking worldwide.
You have to be oppressed to be discriminated against. Men or white people have never been in the minority.
You can have prejudice against both those groups but not be racist or sexist to them.
