Error Expected Character or Scene Change

#1

I have an error that says “Expected CHARACTER or SCENE change. Found “NARRATOR (CHUN HEI)” instead. Did you forget to CAPITALIZE the name, or close the ( ) around the animation?”

This is what my lines say:

INT. CELLPHONE - DAY
&cut to zone 1
@pause for a beat

      NARRATOR (CHUN HEI)
 Are you ready to walk to school together?

choice
"Yeah, I’m almost ready" {

      NARRATOR (YOU)
 Yep! I'll be down in a bit.

choice
"Send" {

       NARRATOR (CHUN HEI)
  Ok. See you soon.

INT. GRANDMAS HOUSE BEDROOM - DAY
&YOU stands screen center in zone 3 and YOU is idle
&cut to zone 3

          YOU (read_phone_neutral)
   And sent.

          YOU (talk_shrug)
    Let's see what else I have to pack.

goto packing_suitcase
}
}

I also have another choice for the first branch that has pretty much the same structure.

It is probably the way you have saved the name. Chun Nei has a space in between. You need to add a name without any space if you want to view it in the narrator bubble.

#3

Can we even add choices to NARRATOR’s words? I’ve never seen that… I think.
I’d suggest that you use a character’s name instead of the narrator when you create a choice. If you don’t want the characters to appear, place them off screen.

Okay. I just did what you two said and it worked. Thank you so much for your help!

#5

But it works fine when I use NARRATOR. It never gave me a problem.

#6

When using
NARRATOR (NAME)
text…
There cannot be spaces in the name. I don’t know if it is a glitch or a bug, but i have struggled with it before. Either make another character without the space, or place them in a different zone and chat as normal.

#7

You’re probably right. It was just a guess.

#8

Exactly what I said.

Just trying to help :slight_smile:
