Facial overlays needed <3

I see in stories where the character has a certain pose but their facial expression change, is there a way someone could possibly help me with the overlays and directing? I’ll definitley credit you! <3

The only way I can think of is to zoom on their face and imply that they are doing a different action than they really are.

Well I think it’s like an overlay, for example in the story: WAR DOGS. The character was able to like lay down but have a smirk on and her eyes facing a different way.
