FEATURE: Mature stories for 18+ for mature readers

Well I don’t have problems with that, because I don’t write stories with that content. But others are.

Please stick to the theme. This is a suggestion, not a story issue

This is on topic. I’m saying I think it’s a bad idea because Episode is aimed at 13+ audiences and 18+ people aren’t limited to reading 18+ stories.

I’ve read a bunch a stories with sex and mature themes in Episode. What are you talking about.
Also making people pay for stories is a terrible idea :joy:

Okay, just want to say a few things. (Sorry if it’s off topic a bit).
This is my opinion, you free to have your own.

Episode’s rule of no sex scenes is a good one. I don’t want to read/see that. It can be hinted at, but no more. What is this guys? Do you really need mature content to keep your readers hooked? My point is that when it comes to sex scenes there shouldn’t need to be a 18+ section! If the mature themes are more like rape, abuse, etc. then that’s different. But I don’t think that’s what this is about. Writers should be asking themselves “What do I want the reader to take from this story?” If you really want to read something like that, Episode is not the place. We don’t need an 18+ section, we need our writer and readers (and Episode Offical ) to realise that drugs and sex and all that doesn’t make a story good.

You want to say that themes about abuse, rape are ok? Because they are totally forbidden and that’s not what this suggestion is about.

Mary Gavin has a story involving a brothel/rape

I’m not Episode to judge what she has :woman_shrugging:t4: Hopefully she keeps the plot in guideline’s borders

Rape, abuse, etc. aren’t ‘okay’ in real life. But unfortunately it does happen. It is never okay. I’m sorry if you thought I was implying otherwise. For example in Blake by Wiktoria had rape in it and for some people can handle it. But I don’t think I’d want a 13-year-old reading that kind of stuff just yet. Blake was a story that showed that abuse and rape were NOT okay and how she got through it.

I guess it doesn’t make much sense cause the app is 13+ on the market and it needs to fit the guidelines suitable for 13+. And most of Episode readers are not mature even if they read mature content. Popup doesn’t make a difference, cause Episode needs to fit Google Play and Apple Store guidelines in the first place. They just can’t gather teens and children as a friendly app and then just sneak with the 18+ content. To do that, the whole app should be marked as 18+ and it would limit Episode app downloads drastically.

Why would people 18+ pay for mature episodes. Literally they can got to Pornhub for free or etc. Just because they have money doesn’t mean they wanna spend it on some mature episode. And yes, kids shouldn’t watch 18+ stuff, but the average age for a kid to start watching porn is 11 years old. If they wanna play some 18+ episode, then they most likely already have watched real porn. There should be some way to confirm you 18+. But it’s not gonna stop horny 13 year olds from playing them. Also i’m pretty sure majority of the people that play episode come for the sexual content, since episode is putting sexual stuff all over their ads.

I think what a lot of this post is trying to say is that there should be a way for older readers to read/ create stories that don’t follow all of Episodes guidelines (listed below)

A lot of writers do have sexual acts being described in their stories which stated in the guidelines is wrong. I don’t think anyone is trying to allow porn onto the app, (I know that I would not want to read stories that show characters having sex or even only talking/ describing intense sex scenes) but there are some stories I have read, and really liked that do describe what is happening and they are technically breaking guidlines and that puts the story at risk of getting taken off the app. I think that if mature scenes like that are done tastefully it adds to the story.

The following content is NOT allowed:

  • Depiction of any and all sexual acts (or anything suggesting that sex is occurring at that moment) in any form, including but not limited to:
    • Explicit scenes combining the position of the characters and available animations to simulate any and all sexual activity. Even if only the legs are shown, there cannot be any animations that imply sexual activity beyond making out, including characters moving below the collarbone.
    • Intercourse can be mentioned and discussed (for example, characters can discuss the fact that they had, are having, or will have sex with another character), but it cannot be explicitly described, or depicted visually through suggestive animations.
    • No active, ongoing sexual abuse involving a character who is under 16 years old, even if it is not shown or explicitly described. Any sexual abuse of underage characters must have occurred in the past and should only be vaguely or sparingly referenced.
  • Explicit details of what is happening or has happened off-screen is not allowed
  • Any nudity on cover art.

The following content is allowed under certain circumstances:

  • Frontal nudity if it is not excessive, only used in non-sexual situations, and always accompanied with censor bars or scenery to censor.
  • Posterior nudity in a story in a tasteful and non-sexual context.
  • Sex scenes involving a character who is under 16 years old. Underage sex can be mentioned to have happened in the past but the reference must be brief and vague and not described in any detail.
  • A consensual sexual relationship between a minor (minimum 16 years of age) and an adult, but it cannot be fetishized. (i.e., you cannot have characters fetishizing what the age gap is, or drawing parallels between the minor-adult relationship and parent-child relationship like referring to the adult as “daddy”)

The feature would only work if Episode enabled filters based on the age entered in the person’s account, no?

This thread is all the way off the rails lmao. And yet, here I am.

Silly observation

Is it just me or will the mods not touch this thread with a 10-foot pole? ZADDY called for a mod and got no response, no one has been flagged at all, and it went without being closed for 5 months. Is this thread the lawless wasteland where Episode mods send their dissidents?

I’m kinda on both sides here. On the one hand, I approve; I don’t think there’s a creative platform like Episode for 18+, one that allows creators to do elementary programming for free. And the guidelines are pretty steep, writers dodge the word “sex” like we’re playing a game of Taboo. Episode stories aren’t like porn, nor like Wattpad erotica, they’re a mix of the written word and animation (for people who don’t have the skills/time to actually take up animation). If anyone does know a site like Episode where creators can write/direct animated stories but it doesn’t bust you for whispering “sex” then PM me lmaoooo

On the other hand, I dunno, I don’t really care to read explicit scenes, and most highly-skilled writers can dodge mature themes with little if any hampering to their creativity. Episode also can’t afford to lose their 13-16-year-old readers, while they may not make the majority of pass purchases, there are a lot of them and they watch a buttload of ads. And how would Episode draw in more 18+ users? How would they advertise to 18+ users while they’re allegedly supposed to be for 13+ as well?

However, neither of these points matter in light of this:

Episode can’t afford to lose their 12+ rating. There are a lot of young users here, and if they can’t hold on to their legal classification of 12+, things won’t look good for them.

If I’m not too late to post a new idea…
What if Episode made another app? Episode After Dark or something? Something that has a legal classification of 18+? That way, young users with a parental block, ones who know their limits, or people who dislike mature stories can stay here, and users who want mature content can go over there? Episode can use all of their coding and tech on the new app. That way, they can keep their young users without boring their older ones. Everybody wins. :open_mouth:

Thoughts? Questions? Rebuttals? Let’s talk about it. Not that Episode will listen, but hey.

Honestly episode is a app for teens, if you want to read it if your older no biggie. I personally disagree with this.

The whole point of a ‘mature section’ being added is to allow authors to publish stories with sexual scenes to ADD to their stories or to express their creativity in some way, shape, or form. It isn’t to act as a pornographic site. Also, I assume, even with a mature section, that we’d still have rules. If a mature section WAS a thing, it’d probably just have less strict rules than they do now.

…the average age for a kid to start watching porn is 11 years old. If they wanna play some 18+ episode, then they most likely already have watched real porn. There should be some way to confirm you 18+. But it’s not gonna stop horny 13 year olds from playing them.

I am unsure as to how this adds to your claim.

There will always be loopholes to any system, it isn’t on Episode if someone’s underaged child somehow gets access to these stories.
