This feature request goes hand in hand with this thread: DISCUSSION: Quota for Featured Stories? that I made so definitely give it a read to see what I and others are thinking with this idea.
There’s a huge imbalance in terms of what does and doesn’t get featured by Episode. Nearly every story is a romance or drama and any stories not categorized as such often have romance and drama as a main focal point even if the genre says it’s not. (For example: something being classified as fantasy even if there’s very little actual fantasy).
My suggestion is that there be some sort of quota so that other genres/stories that aren’t romance and drama get a chance to be viewed by the app. This quota could be as simple as making sure that horror, action, comedy, thriller, adventure, and fantasy get at least 2 featured stories per year per the genre. I’d ask for more but I don’t want to push my luck. 
Why I think this would be a good idea:
- It would offer more variety in terms of the stories.
- It would attract a wider audience to the app. Newer users are having to read a certain amount of Episode Featured/Original stories before they can access the app. If a user comes on who loves horror and action but can only find mafia stories and bad boys, they’re going to leave. Having more variety in stories would prevent that.
- It would encourage more people to write stories in differing genres. Right now there are a ton of romance and drama stories. Which means it’s harder for people who like other genres to really find what they want. Especially right off the bat when they first download the app.
