Guys, please try and keep this civil. We don’t need back and forth arguments. It’s also taking over the thread which could be a very constructive discussion.

It’s about 2 months I believe. I could be wrong
Depends on the contest. I’ve seen anywhere from 4 weeks to 8 weeks.
A writer gets approximately a month and a half to write their story for the contest. With H&V, for example, the contest was announced on Feb 9 and ended on March 26th, 2018.
I feel like it is which is why I’m not entering the Fantastical Contest since I won’t have the time needed. But if you get started at a good time you should be fine
You can get a partner! As I did! Never give up
I was just worried since I have a specific vision and a little bit of a control freak it might not work out. But maybe I should try it
You’ll find someone that suits you. I found my partner through a group chat
Same here. But I entered H & V contest 3 weeks before the deadline and still made it. Yes, I had to work overnight but it was worth it: I gained precious experience and now I am doing things differently.
Alright thanks for the confidence. Maybe I’ll try that!
Thats another issue. Don’t know if Episode will email everyone. Thats a lot of work. And if its public people might upset. I honestly don’t know the best way to do it. If Episode is okay with emailing everyone then private would be cool.
But what about the winners? Would their scores be public no matter what or just like everyone else?
If Episode agrees to transparency but not to private emails, maybe each contestant has to be ok with public transparency in order to participate?
Or maybe people can sign up for transparency or not on the contest forms?
I think that adding this sign up option would mess up the whole idea, but that’s my point of view.
Personally I am absolutely fine with the chart being public, it’s contest after all, and like in sports it’s ok for the results to be public. Some people think though that some authors may get upset if they see that they score really low. To me personally that’s not a problem, again, it’s a contest with winners and losers, and I think that would be very educational to see who scores higher than you to then analyse what you did wrong and how you can improve.
And I also believe that all the stories should be on this public list with their results, including the winners, otherwise that doesn’t sound like 100% transparency. We were told that some of the stories this time scored the perfect 4.0. I would love to know which ones exactly so that I could pay special attention to them and learn. Also, that would automatically stop all the speculation that the winners do not deserve to have won or that a different story should have, as numbers and scores are the exact data one can’t argue with.
Also, I don’t think that once the chart is ready it would be difficult to send automated emails to all the participants if that’s what we all agree on.
But that’s my opinion, I would really like to hear yours.
I personally think that’s not our choice to make because they might be uncomfortable. But if we think simply, winners would definitely have good scores, which might not be an issue. And I guess it would be nice to see what was the score of winners. But again it’s not our call to make.
Yes, but I personally write better under pressure
Before, there was a discussion about why authors enter these contests. The deadline and the pressure is part of my “why”. I like the challenge. I like having the deadline because it forces me to work on a time frame.
I also like the challenge and the thought that I’m working towards something.
But I would never just write a story “outside of the contest”. I mean for me, what’s the point? To me, this is part of the whole challenge. Writing to a deadline and then seeing how I stack up lol. I mean I like to win, but as someone who has both won and lost contests, at the end of the day it’s not a big deal. It’s great to win obviously, but losing isn’t that bad haha.
I agree with you - I don’t see anything wrong with a public list. Maybe the “story” scores could be kept hidden…I think that’s the only section that might be embarrassing for some…
I feel like at a minimum, the winner’s scores should be published.
I’m against all scores being published because I think it could be discouraging for some authors (particularly younger authors) to find out that they came last. At least winners already know they won. Maybe it could be part of the rules- if you sign up you acknowledge that if you win your scores will become public.
The epy awards make their winners scores public.
That sounds great, I don’t mind the public scores and if people know that joining the contest would mean public scores, then they can choose whether or not to participate.
As for the email thing, if its public scores then it woudnt need to be sent in emails.
If it was private scores, then they can’t send the chart with all scores, they would have to email each score seperately.
Oo Idk if this has already been suggested here, but I would very much like to see my reader engagement numbers somewhere on the portal haha
Shall we maybe then propose to publish the table with all the scores then so that anyone could access it? And then add to the competition description that by entering you agree that your score will be shared publicly?
Hello <3,
The petition for transparency does suggest it. Do check it out when you get time <3
