FEATURE: supporting small authors discussion

LOADS. But they chose 15 winners. I think there were more in that one.

They tend to choose more winners when there are more entries.
There weren’t many spotlight entries so they only chose 6.

That kind of makes sense.

Still. Why Blurred Lines is not on the shelf then? It is both great and was ranking second right after S. Langdon. I don’t get it…(

I think I’m just on the fence. Like I want to hear ideas because I do think sometimes new writers have really good stories but have a hard time get attention but at the same time a contest is a contest and only so many ppl can win.

That’s true, you can’t make everyone happy with a contest, there always will be people who are disappointed. But I just think we should somehow distinguish between the big and small authors.

I DM’d you. Honestly, if anything let it down it was possibly the lack of choices as I don’t remember many?
It was my personal favourite though and I thought it was going to get the directing award. I’m very shocked that it didn’t win, even with a lack of choices.

I 110% support this! It feels totally unfair when the same authors win contests over and over again. Of course they’re talented, but it feels like they have an unfair advantage because they have a huge fan base around them. I read so many entries for this contest that had under 1000 reads that were better than some of the stories that won. This platform makes it next to impossible for aspiring authors to have a chance and to gain exposure on stories they spend countless hours on.

I completely agree with you! That’s why I started this initiative. Please, share it as much as possible so that we get more people on our side!

Yes, that would be great, we just need to figure a way to make this work as IG promotion can sabotage the whole concept!

I mean 1K might be a little low, but it’s not that low. 20K to me is a really high number. People do win contests with between 20K and 1M reads and imo they have a better chance. I feel like maybe if 1K was changed to about 3K that might be more accommodating for the low end of the spectrum, but if an author can get between 20K-1M reads, I feel like they have a just fine chance.

Also, the higher amount of reads the popular authors get the less they are affected by anyone who drops out, while with small authors every abandoned read really damages the engagement rate.

I’ve commented once and I will do it again. When there is a popular writer, they get more reads. When a less popular writer gets more reads, then they get more reads too! Maybe instead of a section for less read, make it a section for less popular writers. I completely support this!

Thank you for shedding light on this issue cause there are so many underrated authors on episode whose stories deserve more recognition, and reads on episode. I keep seeing the popular and trending stories whose stories already have several story reads get the spotlight it makes it kind of hard for the underrated authors whose stories are just as good. I will make sure to repost this on my Instagram page as well.

I have over 20,000 reads, trust me I don’t enter contests they’re too hard and discouraging for me (my opinion) but I get where you’re coming from.

Contests are supposed to be the tool to discover new names and, personally, I just believe that when recognised authors enter that doesn’t really leave others with a chance to win.

Thank you very much for your support!
