Frozen 2 Discussion! ❄️

Actually I prefer the first movie rather than the second because of the plot. Surprisingly I have a lot of critique for the second movie but maybe it’s because I’m not the target audience and can easily spot some errors. Still I wish they can address more of the things in the plot of Frozen 2. Hopefully, they’ll make a Frozen 3.

The second movie has seen a great improvement in digital animation and design though so props for that.

Huge rant below on why it isn’t good.

1. It started with a flashback which is awesome but then the whole narration exposition from the King. I guess I’m not a fan of that because everyone keeps digging that it must be show and not tell but that is what the scene of the movie did.
2. The plot was predictable. Surprisingly there were no direct antagonists unlike the first movie which is a nice change but at the same time, in my opinion, makes the movie bland a bit.
3. The running gag that Anna constantly misinterprets Kristoff’s proposal throughout the movie gets a little annoying. Once or twice is alright but it gets too much. At some parts, she easily misinterprets when in fact it’s clearly obvious it should have not. It feels as if the showrunners wanted to extend the plot of the running gag but are seemingly out of ideas…to me it didn’t come across and wasn’t delivered very well. It became not funny but rather annoying during the third time round.
When Kristoff wants to proposed, I was excited to see the reindeers but was let down. What was the overall purpose of the reindeers? And the fact, we saw Anna going another direction so we know its not Anna but that old lady that Kristoff said the proposal to. At least make it like Anna goes into the woods and cut similarly to the Kristoff shot someone going to see Kristoff but surprise its not Anna but the old lady. At least it will have more impact. But most importantly, didn’t anyone ever learn from the first lesson, not to do things alone? To inform first? Anna never inform Kristoff. Kristoff went on his own…at least write a note or something?
4. There were no meaningful songs that can top the original movie. In the first movie, there were some songs which Anna and Elsa sang but we here the contrast in the tone, words and emotions. There’s nothing in Frozen 2.
5. It’s not really a surprise that it was their mother who saved him when they were both young. It’s like Ariel’s plot. And it
6. There’s little to no explanation of the geographical locations. Like they went very far up north so how could the water from the dam reach Arendelle so quickly when in fact the 2 locations are quite far away up North? This is seen when Elsa is riding the waterhorse. She stops the waves from destroying the castle, how did she arrive at the location so fast?
7. There is no direct continuation from Frozen 1. It’s like a whole new plot altogether which is good but at least play off abit of some old stuff in the 1st movie to give some familiarity and a sense of the continuity of the legend. Suddenly you have a mysterious voice, the veil that no one can pass through except of course, you guess it, Elsa. It’s so predictable. At least make it the first time Elsa touch, like she also can’t enter. Like she needs to believe in herself more or something then the veil smoke would allow them to pass through.
8. They made our two main heroins mix blood when they looked white skin. Yes anyone can easily state they are mix blood but from the Frozen 1 standpoint, no indication was given. Even their mother looked white and not like the tribelike. This might be a error of plot from the first movie. No one can change anything from the first movie esp after its released many years later. You can’t change their facial features making them darker or anything. You can’t change the characters. You can only state that they are mix. Just like that. It’s like a sudden thought update that maybe the characters can be of mix blood that would make it different from the first movie. Not really well developed. Well the only consistency is the mother’s cape I guess.
9. Inuit tribes in Norway? Um, can someone enlighten me please. North America Canada yes. But Norway and Arendelle?
10. So Elsa gives up her throne and goes to live all alone? Won’t she ever be lonely, friends, food and a life? She was already lonely all these years and just when she has a chance of socialisation, the movie makes her go alone again. She also has to travel across the ocean to go to that place…
11. Just like during Olaf’s death, he revives again like in Frozen 1. Ok this is a good consistency but the issue is that the Frozen 2 Olaf’s death is conveyed strongly and beautifully(like only a few things the movie actually did right), that Olaf should have just remain that way. Don’t destroy the masterpiece of the story message. It’s also a good way to teach kids about death in the nicest way possible.
