This thread is inspired by @MiyakoMiyu’s Give a Song, Get a Plot thread. She has amazing plots, so make sure to check her thread out as well! And if you love the ideas in that thread, you’ll definitely want to check out her story: The Storm’s Oracle.
Help me procrastinate from working on my DL contest story! As the title of this thread says, give me a quote or phrase and I’ll give you a plot.
Two quotes is the maximum I will do.

(This is a complete short story. The stories I give to you all will be for longer works that you can continue on your own, unless otherwise specified)
The Morelli family is the new family on the street and their daughter Angelia is tired of constantly moving around. She’s upset she had to leave all her friends back in New York, like usual. It always seems like just as Angelia gets accustomed to a town, her Dad hauls her off to a new one. They step out of the car into the muddy Georgian soil. Angelia and her father bring their things into the house. As they bring the boxes in, her father mentions that Halloween is the next day. He tells Angelia that handing out candy would be a great way to meet new friends. Angelia informs him that only elementary schoolers go trick or treating. She’s never been a fan of Halloween after her little sister Elena went missing two years ago on Halloween night. Angelia has always regretted declining to go with Elena trick or treating that night. She believes that if she went, Elena wouldn’t have gone missing. Angelia goes to bed and dreams about her memories with Elena. She hardly sleeps the entire night.
The next morning, her father comes through the front door and holds up two bags of candy. One is a bag of Dolcas. Elena’s favorite candy. Angelia’s father tells her to hand out the candy because he is working a late shift at his job. Angelia refuses, but he wants Angelia to do it for Elena. Angelia is angry he used Elena like that, but eventually gives in. Later that night, Angelia is handing out candy to trick or treaters. To her annoyance, none of the trick or treaters seem to see her. Angelia slams the door on everyone after she sees their eyes darting around and eventually focusing right through her. Right as she decides to turn off the light and give up on this trick-or-treating thing, the door ring again. Angelia groans, but this time opens the door to see someone who looks just like Elena. Bright, green eyes and all. The little girl reaches for a Dolca.
Angelia is glad someone finally saw her and took some candy and she breathes a sigh of relief. They make eye contact. Angelia is aghast, but the girl says nothing and walks away. Angelia is terrified and let’s put a small scream. She locks every door in the door in the house and runs up to her room. Angelia lays in fear for the entire night, paranoid at every sound she hears.
Over the next few weeks, Angelia continues to see the girl seemingly everywhere she goes. One day Angelia is shopping in a convenience store and sees the same girl exit the shop. She’s at the checkout, trying to get the cashier (who seems to be starting straight through her) to ring up her items. Angelia decides to follow the girl. She walks down streets, through alleys, around corners, until the girl finally stops at the graveyard. The girl begins to talk to someone out of view. Angelia hides behind a tree and tries to make out what she is saying. She creeps closer and the leaves rustle under her feet. The girl turns around and calls out, asking who is there. Angelia doesn’t respond.
The girl creeps towards Angelia and Angelia holds her breath, barely out of site from this little girl. Pause. Angelia turns her head the other direction. There is the girl, staring back at her. A scream escapes her. The girl stares at her for a while, not saying anything. After what seems like an hour, the girl tells Angelia that no one can see her because she’s halfway between a human and a ghost. Angelia thinks she’s going crazy and tries to walk away from the conservation, but the girl grasps onto Angelia’s wrist. The girl states straight into her eyes and says “It’s me, Elena”. At first, Angelia is relieved that her sister appears to be alive, but soon learns that Elena had perished shortly after the Halloween night she went missing. Elena tells Angelia that if she joins her in the underworld, all will be forgiven. Angelia refuses. She can’t leave everyone she knows behind! What if this ghost of a sister goes after her father? There’s nothin she could do about it if she were dead.
Elena releases Angelia from her grip and Angelia begins to walk away. A few seconds later, Angelia hears voices that are presumably from ghosts, who try to convince Angelia to join them in the underworld. Their voices are deafening and Angelia clamps her hands over her ears. A ghost appears in front of her and asks innocently: “Don’t you want to join us Angelia”. Once again, Angelia refuses. The ghost transforms into Elena, who again stares deeply into Angelia’s eyes and says: “Pretty please?”. Angelia violently shakes her head and makes a beeline for the street, but Elena runs faster. She jumps in front of Angelia and holds out her arms, but Angelia is going to fast to stop. She runs straight into Elena and dissipates.
