“How can such pain exist, without physical harm?”
Genre: Dystopian/action
All their life, MC has put up high walls around them and never let anyone know how they truly felt. Ever since that time in first grade when Timothy Grant shoved MC on the playground and pointed out every negative feature about them, MC has trusted no one. And how could they? When you have a secret as big as a hidden twin in a one-child society, you can’t let anyone get close to you.
MC’s secretive life has caused them to feel alone in this world. Sure they have their twin, but you can’t expect someone who’s been locked in a basement their entire life to have a real grasp on what the world is like. That’s why when MC is approached by the Res Walker (the son of the president of the society) during lunch one day, MC decides they can let their guard down for one person. Res and MC become extremely close, which brings up some suspicion in MC’s twin. This is the first time in a while that MC has felt true happiness. Until Res comes over for dinner and gets a gets a little too close to their well-kept secret.
Res discovers TWIN hiding in the basement and immediately pages his father, the president. MC goes down to the basement and TWIN tells her that they need to run. MC refuses, they can’t leave Res, the person they love. TWIN insists that their love isn’t real and that Res was the one who brought their secret to light. MC denies again and watches TWIN run off into the night.
A few months later…
TWIN had teamed up with another illegal twin and attempted to overthrow the government. They were killed in action. MC has discovered who Res truly is and has become distraught. MC runs away in a panic and leaves their life behind. All MC can think about is how they have now lost everyone that has every loved them. TWIN is never coming back. Res didn’t love them. Who knows what the government did to their parents after the house was raided? MC races though the forest repeating the same thoughts in their head. What have I done? What have I done? They’re all gone because of me. They black out.
After wandering in the wilderness for a few weeks, MC stumbles across a mural. The mural depicts two twins running from an abstract evil force. MC understands the force to be the government and they suddenly realize what they need to do. MC must take over their deceased twin’s mission of exterminating the government. They must abolish the one-child policy for good.
Not sure how I feel about this one, I generally don’t write dystopian stories.
Hopefully it followed the quote well enough!
