Hair mask help? 🤷🏼‍♀️

So I just dyed my hair red and the red color usually fades very easily and so I’m supposed to use a hair mask. I just don’t know how😂 like am I supposed to put in to my hair then let it stay for some time then normally wash my hair or am i supposed to wash my hair normally and then put the mask on?

Has anyone used a hair mask before?!

Shave all your hair.

It depends on the mask you are using! It usually is written in the “instructions”

It doesn’t have instructions about that. It only says it can be put to dry or towel dry hair. And it tells how long it should stay in the hair but nothing about wheter it’s before or after washing your hair.

It’s a hair mask that has a red tone to it.

Ugh, I don’t know
I’d try after washing it - but I don’t know!

Or you can shave it all off…

Usually you wash without conditioning and then do the mask and rinse. Body oils, dirt and conditioner residue can prevent the mask from absorbing properly so I’d make sure the hair was clean first. I’d also recommend a sulfate free shampoo. Did you use a direct dye?

I don’t think it was direct dye. Idk since it was a hair dresser that did my hair.

I do hair masks all the time, are you doing one of the oil hair treatments or one of the more creamy hair masks?

I have literallly no idea.

It’s a ‘‘nourishing toner for colored hair’’

What’s the texture like?

It’s red, looks kinda like basic body cream.

I’m not an expert but I think you should put it after you’ve washed your hair. I’d put it when my hair is still wet.

Yes and no, if it says toner it sounds like it deposits color, basically a conditioner with pigment in it. You should for sure give your hair a gentle wash with water as cold as you can stand it before using the mask. Again any dirt or oil will prevent it from properly depositing color.

It’s a chili pepper color

For aftercare I usually recommend clients fill a bottle of conditioner with their color and deep condition with it once a week to keep their color fresh. It sounds like that’s basically what the mask is. Shampoo your hair in the coldest water you can stand, blot with a towel until damp, apply mask and leave it for however long the directions say, then rinse with cold water. The cold water part is important.

Ohhhh okay I’ll try that ! Thanks
