Have you ever written 2 stories at the same time?

Hey guys!

I’m currently writing a story and I’m let’s say at the middle (It’s romance/drama). And today I had another idea for a different story(fantasy/comedy). The thing is I know how I want to end the second story and not the first one! I’m just going with the flow.
I’ve already written down the plot of the second story.

Also, the first is LL style but I prefer INK so I was thinking of writing the second in INK.
Do you think I should start writing the second? Or should I stick to the first until I finish it? I really like both of my ideas but the second is more complete.

I have several on the go right now.

New You - speculative fiction about body customization
Heroes in Hard Times - street level superhero
Silent Earth - mystery thriller
Spoils of War - military alternate history drama
Star Signs - space opera

Speaking as someone who has 7 stories out at the same time, with only one complete and multiple others in the works [that aren’t yet published] personally I find that working on multiple stories at once can really help.

What I mean by it helping is that: writers block just doesn’t happen to me anymore. Because whenever I lose motivation for one story, I find that I’ve always got another story that my motivation is extremely high for… so I just work on that one in the meantime.

Of course that won’t be the same for everyone… but it works perfectly for me. :blob_hearts:

I wheezed when I read this title because:

  1. I have ADHD.
    a. This means that I have difficulty regulating attention
    b. So committing to just one project at a time is rarely how my brain works

  2. I have yet to finish a single chapter of any of my stories
    a.

  3. I have 6 to 8 stories in progress and even more that are in my head

No, I don’t think I’ve ever done 2 at the same time- it’s way more than that. I shift between 2 that I like best at any given time. There’s the “main” story I’m writing, the story I write when I don’t know what to do with the “main” story, the story/chapter I created so that I could make overlays for the “main” story, and the stories I haven’t touched in weeks/months.

Which story fits into these categories changes often.

I’d say that you should at least write the new idea down as thoroughly as possible. As long as you have that down, you can always go back and forth whenever feel like it

I’ve written two stories at the same time twice because I was doing crossovers. Loved how they turned out but they were a big headache

I had 2 ongoing stories at the same time and I found it really difficult to concentrate on them both. However I know people who like to have options depending on what they’re inspired for so just depends on you really. But for me I didn’t like the pressure of doing both stories and ended up falling really far behind on one of them💖

Yup. I have 4 stories out, 1 is complete and my current one is ongoing. It is not easy!!! I prefer to stick to just one, switching between them so often leads to burnout for me.

I have two published ones out and it’s a little hard to update both at the same time, because one story has more viewers and I try to prioritize them. But I also want to update the other because it was my first story and needs to be completed :sob:
