Having a Character Move While Another is Talking

Okay, so follow me through this, I want to have one of my characters do half of an action while my other character is talking. This is the script that I have so far and it’s still not doing what I want it to do-
&CLAIRE starts talk_startled
@pause for .5
&CLAIRE faces left
EMILY (talk_sad_timid)
Do you have to go?

I’ve switched the @ and & symbol between the three every way possible. If anyone could help that would be great.

Try this
&CLAIRE is talk startled AND CLAIRE faces left
EMILY (talk_sad_timid)
Do you have to go?

This still has the whole action while the character is talking. I want the first half of the action for her to be facing right then halfway face left.

&CLAIRE is talk startled AND CLAIRE faces right THEN CLAIRE faces left
EMILY (talk_sad_timid)
Do you have to go?

If I’m interpreting this correctly, to have a character face a different direction halfway through an animation during dialogue, you need two & lines, with a small delay before the direction changes. It’s worth noting that most animations are shorter a second or shorter, so anything from 0.25 to 0.5 would be best for the delay.

&pause for 0.25 THEN CLAIRE faces left
&CLAIRE is talk_startled

    EMILY (talk_sad_timid)
Do you have to go?
