Help making overlay transparent

Hey, so… I’ve been trying all day long to remove the sides to this pic. Cause it’s all transparent but there’s a little white background to the sides and I can’t remove it.
Can someone do it?

I recommend using Gimp for this. Open the image in Gimp, go to Layers > Add Alpha Channel, then use the magic select tool (looks like a wand on the toolbox), select the white spaces, and press the Delete key.

I can still see the strange white side🤦🏻‍♀️
I tried my way, I just hope that the overlay will be okay when I use in my story.
