Help Me Out! (LGBTQ+)

Hey guys so I started writing a story with my friend for R&R contest, we want our mc to be orphan and adopted by gay couple. My question is, does mc last name should stick with her last name or change to one of her dad last name? i also have question how the last name will go with gay/lesbian couple if they marriage, how the last name will turn out for them?

It probably depends on the age of the child. If she was adopted as an infant or under 8-ish, they would likely change her last name to match her dads. If she was old enough to remember her family and life, she may keep her last name or she might change it to theirs, it’s just preference. Gay couples have the same last name options as straight couples - they can just choose one of their last names and both use that, they can hyphenate, they can both keep their own last names, or they can pick a brand new one together. Again, it’s just preference and comes down to the specific couple.

Gay couples usually do whatever they want with their last names. I have two aunts who didn’t change either of their last names. I have two other aunts and one of them took the other’s last name. And I for one am gay and plan on hyphenating my last name. So it really just depends how you wanna do it. :man_shrugging:
