Ok so I know that there’s three types of people in this community
1: The one’s that LOOOVEEE clichés
2: The one’s that ABSOLUTELY DESPISE AND HATE clichés
3: The one’s that aren’t really bothered about clichés full stop.
NOW!!
When writing a story I tend to avoid clichés, or at least I try to. (But I sometimes add sneaky clichés in)
But I’m facing difficulty with this story I’m writing as there are many like it. A College Story
No no no no! it’s not the same plot as the others where there’s a girl whos shy and timid and doesn’t have any friends and ends up falling in love with the bad boy or anything like that, so don’t worry.
So I need help WITH clichés. Especially high school ones…because that’s what the story is about-
I love Clichés
I hate Clichés

No the Love interest is not part of the mafia or a gang, I hate that cliché…
Cliches are good when used in the right way. It’s kind of hard to avoid them completely because almost anything is considered one now a days. I don’t consider my story to be “cliche” but there’s two guys interested in the mc which is a cliche trope. I think it’s really just about how you as the writer approach it. Make the story good and then people won’t mind so much I think.
Some cliches are great.
Some are not.
There’s a thread about Episode cliches:
Sometimes, it’s about how much they impact the story. The bad boy falling for you and being soft for you? Eh.
But a cute scene, where they go on a Ferris Wheel and the LI is scared, works for me.
It’s all about the writing quality, the directing quality, and the plot itself.
So, I can’t vote without knowing what cliches you have in mind.
I don’t hate HATE clichés, they just annoy me when they’re the big part of a plot. Some things I love is when people take clichés and straight up poke fun at them or a story uses them but doesn’t take itself seriously. So I can’t really give a list of clichés I ABSOLUTELY HATE, but i do really “hate” the whole group of clichés that come from the idea that any guy and I mean ANY (gang leader, celebrity, school’s bad boy, you name it - it could be a homosexual guy for all I care) will fall in love with the MC because “she’s DiFfErEnT” “oh I’M NOT THE SAME AROUND HER” GAHHHH I WILL GAUGE MY EYES OUT LIKE OPEN YOUR EYES GODDAMNIT
IF YOUR STORY’S GONNA BE ABOUT A CUTE HIGH SCHOOL GIRL THAT’S INNOCENT WHO GETS KIDNAPPED AND INSTANTLY FALLS FOR HER MAFIA LEADER KIDNAPPER CALL YOUR DAMN STORY STOCKHOLM’S SYNDROME BECAUSE LET’S BE HONEST IF HE GODDAMN KIDNAPPED YOU IT’S NOT TO LEAVE HIS FRICKING GANG - RISKING HIS LIFE - TO FRICKING MARRY YOU
wooo that was a lot of hate haha thank god you made this thread
I hate that TOOOO
Its in every story ive read so far… im 100% positive that someones fallen in love with someone because “They aint the same around them”

Honestly same. I see so many stories here that involve falling for some sexy mafia boss or gang leader. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying every story based on it is bad. It would just be nice to have more diversity.
I feel like a cliché is only good if you add your own tist into it. Instead of “take a sad song and make it better” it should be “grab a cliché and make it better”
