Help with overlay opacities

Can anyone explain me hoe to fade an overlay?
I want my overlay to be transparent and suddenly to start fading into its original color.
Or simply help me with overlay opacities

INT. BLACK - NIGHT with NAMEOFOVERLAY
NARRATOR
blah blah
@overlay NAMEOFOVERLAY opacity 0 in 4

That will make your overlay fade out in 4 seconds.
