I’m what the kids called cishet, and I get annoyed by these stereotypes. I wish characters weren’t made to be tropes but to be individuals, so I really don’t like the Gay Best Friend trope because I feel like they’re there to be a token character. Their main personality shouldn’t be (typically flamboyantly) “gay.” They deserve to have a role in the story beyond that. And if someone does make the best friend gay, subvert the stereotype. Give that character a fleshed out personality, backstory, likes, dislikes, aspirations. Don’t just make them the sassy fashion/dating advice machine.
