My two favourite sci-fi movies are probably Arrival and Gattaca! Both very good! 
ETA: Arrival is about a linguist who gets called in to help the US government figure out how to communicate with aliens that have just arrived for the first time. It’s honestly super cool.
Gattaca is about a naturally-born man in a world where everyone is genetically designer, who wants to become an astronaut but has to fake his way into the program by pretending to be someone else and using his DNA. (And then… just when he’s getting close to going to space… there’s a murder!)
