I like the plot and the dancing but the outfits are… wrong in some way what does everyone else think???
I haven’t read Episode’s version but I read the OG story and I liked it, but I agree! I think the author is just doing the best they can with the Episode wardrobe lol. It kinda got on my nerves a bit too but I really liked the writing so I looked past it.
Well It’s a featured story so they have access to more clothes than the rest of us but all things considered it’s a great story
Their dresses are regency era (1795-1820) so the short sleeve pink dress and the corset aren’t accurate and the lack of corset . bonnets and reasonable knickers make my inner historian a bit itchy and not to mention the fact that’s its an option to wear your hair down without a hat which was seen as improper at the time and it was only done by… harlots
Baby’s corset looks like this

And the pink dress looks like this

Baby wears this at some point too

I just feel like the team could’ve done much more research into outfits because they can do great with the stuff they have but they missed a few key parts (and the fact that high class regency era ladies would probably wear asbestos dresses like this one )
As someone who’s currently working on a period drama story (Victorian Era for reference) it’s important to remember that assets for these kinds of stories are extremely lacking. Already I’m having to layer things/use more modern type clothes so everyone isn’t in the same 7 dresses.
Which definitely proves we need more period based clothing.
@ChocolateSheepCookie yes, Penny’s dress is kind of appropriate and daring. I think that’s because the servants, maids and other small positions of the household are dancing in secret by a village pub, so I think the “drop it like it’s hot” and “grind” moves are why they wear such historically-inaccurate clothing. I’m pretty sure they didn’t have club music and “drop it” moves back then, either.
I checked the author of Episode’s Dirty Dancing, it’s not an Episode Original Story. Does that mean the author wrote it and it was picked and featured by the Episode Team?
I hope you don’t mind me answering. If I remember right she did the rewrite of the Episode Featured version herself. Of course I could be remembering wrong so don’t quote me on that.
I have to do that too It is really hard to find appropriate assets and I think Episode is doing amazing work with what they have and an app not owned by a big corporation doesn’t have alot of funding so I gently cry every I think of how the Artist and programmers are being paid and there is like 25 or less people working on Episode and running the forums so I understand how hard it is I just think they could of mixed and matched especially when the 1930s were approaching and…
fashion was a tad overboard and rich people got in on new fashions a bit quicker
Hi! I’m the author! For the original story - Austentatious, it was first written in July 2018 when Limelight was still quite new and we had very limited assets (if you’ve read the original you’ll see I did the best I could with what we had!)
When I re-wrote it for the featured version, I actually created a document of costumes for each class and age of the characters to give to the art team. They used that as a reference and did the best they could - obviously all new assets cost money and again we did the best we could! I agree that not everything is historically accurate but things like hats and bonnets are difficult when you have full CC for all the hair choices!
Also I did try to kind of create a period mash up with some modern phrases and things… kind of inspired by Hamilton, the musical.
Hopefully that clears some things up, glad you enjoyed the story for the most part
Ok thank you your story was great and I hope I didn’t offend you
Btw I am not joining in with this conversation but I love the title for this topic it’s probably my most favourite title for a topic in this whole episode forum
