Sooo I just got my iPad today and the first thing I did was download procreate because I really wanted to start drawing and get good at it. I draw a lot on paper and I’m currently studying art so I thought it’d be easy to draw on the iPad
TURNS OUT NOT
So today was obviously my first time using the app and I didn’t bother with tutorials I kinda just- went for it.
I picked a random girl to draw and I should’ve picked something easier but of course I’m stupid and picked something challenging
Here’s out it is so far:
Main feedback I need is the colour, do I blend it (I haven’t blended anything) or do I leave it as it is…? And is the colour too grey
Don’t be afraid to be honest I can handle them hah I promise (:
The base sketch is pretty accurate
It’s always good to have the base sketch in dark lines and put the base sketch layer above the layer you use to paint the skin
The brush you used gave it a nice watercolor look but the skin still looks a bit blotchy
The skin tone is a tad bit off and the blending needs some work
It’s probably a good idea to pain the mid-tone of the skin and paint the values over while blending
Also, this also helps with your eyes seeing the colors and color picking: Make a layer beneath the skin and base sketch layer and paint it all a light grey color.
It looks great and you seem to know how to get started for someone who just started digital painting
Great work
I also noticed that the dark tones around the nose were a little too light
This was something my professor told me: Don’t underestimate how dark something is
Thank you so much for being honest and this is actually super helpful (: I did originally have the base over the painting but my clumsy idiotic self accidentally switched over to the base and started paining there so half the painting was on a clean layer and half the painting was on my base layer so I just cried for like 10 seconds and decided to carry it on the base layer as I didn’t want to erase half the work So do you think I just blend it a little ?
Yes, You can make a blending brush by using a watercolor brush or changing the brush settings to water.
you color pick the area where the two colors overlap in the middle and paint over it till you can’t see where one color begins or ends
And I’ve been painting for a while and I still paint on the wrong layer sometimes
also if you want some extra help, follow lucas peinador on youtube and he tells you the stuff you need to know about when drawing in digital versus on paper
as well as how to color pick without actually using the color picker. as a new artist this helped me advance when I was new to ibis paint krita and procreate.
I progress really fast and I recommend his videos . he doesnt make many so you wont feel overwhelmed.
