How can I make my story seem better

So I started writing my first episode and what I realized is that I am not that bad but my problem is that you can literally see that I am just a beginner and that bothers me somehow…and my plot is also very interesting but my story seems boring sometimes idk why… Is there any way to make it look more interesting and professional… And how do I work with overlays?

The trick? Keep practicing. I think it would be best for you to practice your coding and directing skills on small scene/ short stories to help yourself become familiar with coding and such, instead of jumping headlong into a story. It is tedious, but it is also helpful, and will be the best for you later on in your career!!

First at one point we all feel unhappy with our work but that will make improving all the more rewarding. It’s okay to look like a beginner if you are because when you get better people will notice and take that into account. If you are really worried watch tutorials by Mary D Sava, Joseph Evans, Episode Notes, Episode tv and Bronte. That is how I learned and don’t be afraid to ask people to be beta readers to get feedback on your work.

And as for overlays you can watch tutorials for Joseph Evans and Episode Notes.

But the basics are to add one to a scene you can use one of two ways.

INT. BACKGROUND with OVERLAY

or if you want to add it in the middle of scenes use

@overlay OVERLAYNAME create
@overlay OVERLAYNAME opacity 1

and you just use the code in the box below the previewer (it’s just like spot directing a character)

As for the the overlay one, you can check out Dara Amarie’s website

Okay thanks :blush: but for example if I want my character to drink out of a cup… How do I make the cup move w the hand?

First decide if you really need your own cup overlay for this or could you just make use of an episode prop

But if you really are sure on it being an overlay then you can make/get someone to make an overlay that has a cup attached to an arm overlay then you will have to move it up and to make it smooth you will need to use easing functions. Below is video on them. I can’t really explain as well as a video would. So I would recommend finding videos on youtube about them.

If you look at “PROPS” you can type in “cup” and it should show you all cup props. Then you simply…

@add PROPNAME to CHARACTER << to add the prop to the character
@remove PROPNAME from CHARACTER
