How do I add up points

Hi,
I was just wondering. If anybody has played Love on Fire, if you chose a good choice then you get a :fire: and then at the end of the episode, it tallies up all the :fire:'s you got and remembers it. I want to do a similar thing in my story. Could someone explain it to me?
