How do I force a character to do their animation while facing left (or right) if there is't an animation for that character facing the direction I want them to?

In my story I have 2 characters (a Girl and a Dog) in a bedroom, I want the girl to enter from the left, pet the dog, say something then have the dog get up and both characters to walk off screen to the left but I cannot get this to work right, I have tried changing the position where the girl walks to on screen but it keeps flipping the animation every time I do that so she is petting the air instead of the dog, how do i fix this?

this is my code:

@zoom on 509 249 to 60% in 0

@MC F walks to spot 1.280 109 75 in zone 1

@transition fade out black in 1

@MC faces right
@MC faces left

Is your MC spot directed before the walking animation as she needs to walk from a specific spot to begin with which may mess up your code.

Maybe try this?

INT. YOUR BED - DAY

&cut to zone 2
&zoom on 509 249 to 60% in 0

&DOG 1 spot 1.280 173 77 in zone 2 AND DOG 1 faces (left or right) AND DOG 1 is idle_down_sleep_loop
&MC F moves to layer 2
@MC F walks to spot 1.280 304 51 in zone 2 AND MC F faces right THEN MC F spot 1.280 238 70 in zone 1 AND MC F is pet_dog_kneel_happy_loop
@pause for (length of time)

&DOG 1 is transition_down_to_sit

MC F (talking animation or petting animation)

Want to go for a walk?

@DOG 1 is idle_wag_loop

@pause for 2

&DOG 1 walks to spot 1.280 -21 87 in zone 1 AND DOG 1 faces left

Oh all you have to do it this:

@CHARACTER starts to (ANIMATION) AND CHARACTER faces (right/left)

Ex:

@ MARY starts to talk_giggle AND MARY faces left

Make sure you us caps on AND

That works, I didn’t know that command worked like that but it does, adding this was easy and I didn’t have to completely rewrite that whole part just to fix a small problem.

Thank you for helping me, this is something I might have figured out myself I just had not tried it yet when I made the original post and what I probably would have done was to keep trying to make that part of the story work properly by just moving the character around for a few more hours had it still not work right and would have given up but now I can finish the chapter and start the next one.
