How do i position sitting characters?

Hi there. I’m pretty new to directing, and I still can’t figure out how to position characters so that they’re sitting. For example here, I’d want them to sit on the chairs, but I’m not sure how to position them correctly so they’ll sit where they’re supposed to. They aren’t even showing up on the screen either. I’d appreciate some advice.

Hey there!

If you are not able to see them in a specific zone you must type your background’s name and then write the zone you want it to be in like:

INT. BACKGROUNDS NAME - DAY

@cut to zone 2

@AMANDA sits upscreen left in zone 2 AND AMANDA faces right

if you still cant see the character check the web previewer and click “Directing helper”
then click “spot directing” and then you can move your character and see them on screen.

If you didn’t understand i suggest watching this tutorial :

Hope it worked out! :sparkling_heart:

Apart from placing the spot direction in the zone, I would also make sure you adjust the spot direction after they sit.

Where you position them when they are standing doesn’t always mean they will be at the same position sitting.

Also if you have a overlay make sure you have layered the character correctly, a chair would be the lowest level then next layer is the character followed by the table/desk.

Okay. I think it looks a bit better now, it’s just that it’s only showing one of the characters when I want them both to be there. Is there any way to fix that?

Click “show helpers>directing helpers>spot directing”
And then if you want to change the spot for a different character, just click “Change Char” and adjust the spot.

If you want them sitting in the new spot just type this:

@YOU is spot (put the spot here) AND YOU faces right AND YOU starts idle_sit_leanback_impressed

I believe this is ony one zone background but because you wrote cut to zone 2 firs your character is spoted in zone 2 than you cut to zone 1 and spott character so this one is in zone 1

Because it is one zone background you dont need none of the cut command so delete them.

Also using basic directing doesnt work well wit this background because the characters are too small comparing to che charir so spot directing will work better here.

And another thing if you use background with table overlay as this one you actually do not need to use sit animation you can use any animation because you will not see their lower body anyway.
