How do I prevent overlays from popping up?

Hi, and I’ve noticed that every time I place an overlay into a scene, it just pops up, especially when I preview it. Here’s exactly what happens. First the overlay does appear but it appears in its original state, when instead it should immediately appear in its modified state. Instead it appears in its original state and then later appears in its modified state, and ideally it should immediately appear in its modified state. If anybody knows how to fix this, then please let me know.

Here’s a sample of my script:

Well, first of all, to prevent overlays from popping up you need to play with opacity:

@overlay OVERLAYNAME opactity 1 in #
 # is time

You need to add overlay to the scene like this:

INT. BACKGROUND NAME - DAY with OVERLAYNAME to % x y in zone # at layer #

And try to combine overlay commands:

&overlay OVERLAYNAME shifts to 196 223 AND overlay OVERLAYNAME scales to 1.0 1.0
