If I want one character to be in the front of another how would I write it in the script?

You have to layer your characters using the command: @CHARACTER moves to layer # Or with spot direction: @CHARACTER spot % x y in zone # at layer # Read more about layers here: HOW TO: Move Characters / Overlays to the Layers
