How do you plan your characters?

My question is: do you plan out every little detail for every one of your characters? - whether that is the main character, love interest, friend, parent, friends parent (you get the gist) - or do you just write down their personality and leave it at that?

I do both of these…like for example i plan/think out ALL my side Characters love interest and how i want them to meet them/the Characters backstory…etc. then i write down ideas that just randomly pop in my mind and if i like the idea i will most likely us it and if the characters personality fits that scene
