I actually do the same as @schittwriter. 
Just my experience on Instagram and Facebook: I just block and don’t add persons I don’t trust, for example: pages of famous persons (that are mostly catfishes to my opinion). Also people who are provoking others or like to create drama are automatically blocked.
Also don’t give to much personal info… For example → I will never give my address or phone-number.
They may know that I live in the Netherlands with my cats and boyfriend, but that’s it!! 
The Netherlands is still big enough not to be found for catfishes…
