How many lines does the perfect chapter contain?

I’m on chapter 9 in a story I’m writing called A Guitar Named Hope, and I’ve reached 1199 lines (including dress-up/make-up options) but I’m not even halfway through what I wanted to include in the chapter. After a certain point, can a chapter be too long? And when would that be?

You shouldn’t base the length of your chapter solely on lines because the more advanced your directing skills are, the more lines are used.
E.g someone who has only basic directing could write a chapter with 800 lines for around a 10 minute chapter; however, someone with advanced directing skills could write 2000 - 3000 lines for a chapter with the same time length.

The best thing to do is time your chapter. Read it through at an average pace - The perfect time balance is usually between 10 - 15 minutes. :slightly_smiling_face:

I never thought about timing them, thanks!

Did this answer your question?

Uhhh yeah, it sure did.

Happy to hear it! Closing thread
