How many readers would you expect to lose if you don't update for 6-8 months šŸ˜†?

Would you lose all the readers if you do this? Half of them? Or do you think most of them would still read it?

If a story hasn’t been updated for 6-8 months, would you delete it from your favorites?
  • Yes, I’d just delete it.
  • No, I’d still keep it around in case it gets updated.
  • If the author plans on updating it eventually, then I’ll keep it around, otherwise I’d delete it.

disclaimer: this answer maybe different for everyone BUT my answer is

I would not read the story anymore because when you update it months later, no matter the description, I have already forgotten what they story was about, what was last said in the previous chapters. I will literally look at the story and think
ā€œwhat is thisā€ and remove it because now that I have forgotten what happened in the book, I have no reason to read it.
And you are probably thinking "well episode gives you the option to re-read the previous chapters after it has been a long time of the author not uploading,
Well, I literally hate when that happens so I.

And again you are probably thinking ā€œwhy did you not just vote on the pollā€ funny thing is I literally just now saw it after wondering why this did not get any replies/

My advice is if the story is not out yet, dont release it until you are ready to upload atleast once a week

Lol I have like 2 stories that aren’t out

One of them is sci-fi and I thought about releasing it and putting it into the sci-fi genre, but it only has 3 chapters so far.

Yea, then just keep them until you are ready to update atleast 3 times a month

I have been writing since summer 2020 and I still have not released a story yet because i was not ready, now Im just waiting on a book cover to release

It really depends on how memorable the story is. I really need to love the story. In most cases, I’ll forget about it, read the episode when it’s out (if I even notice), but then give up because I’ve forgotten everything. My advice is to include a recap.

Honestly, it depends on the story :sob: Like for example I was reading this story called Agent Cinderella by Mavis Rosebrook and Elise C and they haven’t updated since last year…but it’s still in my bookmarked. (In my opinion it’s a really, really good story). There are others where I just dipped the stories completely :face_with_head_bandage: But all in all my advice is your story should be worth the wait. :woman_shrugging: --No pressure.

I usually only read stories Ik r complete/will defo b completed to prevent this. Lol :white_heart:

Well, a lot but if your story is good and you have a good reason then there will be people who still read your story. There is an author who works for the NHS (UK health care service) so she is fighting off covid in the hospitals but I have seen her comments, she hasn’t updated in a year. So there is everyone telling her to delete her story at this point or begging for updates in comments even though she has a highlight explaining everything. They somehow think they are entitled to her work even though they don’t pay her. So there will be a lot of ungrateful people telling you to delete your story or acting like victims but I know when she updates which might be a few months another year, I will still read it since I love the story so much. So if your readers really love your story they will stick around. There are many stories for them to read in the meantime. :woman_shrugging:

I would still read it and keep it in my favorites, but a lot of people are going to forget about it.

Moved to Episode Fan Community since Community is for discussion of specific stories. Make sure to check out our Forum Tutorial for more info about creating topics, and feel free to PM me if you’ve got questions.

I would delete it lol. Only because I tend to lose interest after a month of it not being updated. However, I did wait probably 5-6 months for an update one time. Was it worth it? Eh, not really. I deleted after I read the update lol.

Some stories are worth the wait, I guess.

I don’t think your readers would increase that much if you only updated it once after the long break, but if you begin to update it regularly again - that would show readers that the story has become active and there will most likely be more chapters to look forward to soon.

But, I’d say if you didn’t update a story for over half a year, you’d lose quite a lot of readers but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any chance of earning them back. :woman_shrugging:t3:

To answer the original question: I tend not to read too far into a story until it’s completed (unless it’s an author who’s magical and updates weekly without fail). So I’ll read enough to know if I want to continue the story, then leave it in my favourites until it’s complete.

I don’t blame you  Here’s the second half of my statement though :see_no_evil:

Worth the wait is what Im saying.

It actually took me 7 months and 10 days until I was finally able to publish part 5 of my story, which I actually did today. The reason for this was that I had to take a break of 2 months because I was just too busy with school and it took me another 2 months to draw 4 new backgrounds. So yeah, things happened. I just hope I can publish part 6 way sooner.

I don’t really expect to lose readers, I didn’t have much reads in the first place. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Now, if someone else wouldn’t update for 6-8 months, I’d still keep it in my favourites in case it gets updated.
