How to characterize trans characters at best?

I’m writing a story, one of the MC’s best friend will be a trans girl

I just don’t want to fall into stereotypes or offend someone. Is there something I should keep in mind while I write my story? Also I don’t want her to just be someone placed there for diversity, she has to be a normal character (i don’t know if I’m explaining myself clearly)
