How to create an Episode Instagram Account

Let’s just pretend that that last thread of mine doesn’t exist and it’s been 3 days since I last created my topic.

I’ve been looking at many Episode author’s Instagram accounts, and they are well-set up. I wanted to learn this ahead of time in case I set up my first Episode author account.
Okay, so here are my questions:

  1. Before even starting your Episode story and posting updates on it, what should be the first thing that I post?
  2. How can I make my posts look appealing to my viewers and future audience? Filters, backgrounds, boarders surrounding the picture?
  3. What are the highlights for, and how do I use them properly?
  4. What do I post in my stories?
  5. How do you add music to each part of your story/highlight?
  6. Anything I should avoid while creating my Insta page?
  7. How do I link another post in my story that others can go to and see for themselves (example: showing a how to draw post on your own story)?
  8. Often, I see Episode accounts that link posts on their stories that have to do with serious issues (like animal abuse and such). Do I have to do that? Am I a bad person if I don’t bring up at least one issue that others should be aware of?
  9. How is it possible that certain authors get millions of reads in their stories? Is it just because of Instagram?
  10. Anything else I should know?

I really don’t know what else to ask, but any kind of help you can give is appreciated!

Just anyone that’s experienced with Instagram could help! And tell me if you want your tag removed!

  • Before even starting your Episode story and posting updates on it, what should be the first thing that I post?
Maybe ur cover? Or ur pfp and sum facts abt u!
  • How can I make my posts look appealing to my viewers and future audience? Filters, backgrounds, boarders surrounding the picture?
    Editing them on photoshop?
  • What are the highlights for, and how do I use them properly? Make stories then when u have an important/informative story u save it to ur different highlights (I use highlight maker to design the covers)
  • What do I post in my stories? Anything :tipping_hand_woman:t3: Reposts, sneekpeaks, question boxes, random stuff.
  • How do you add music to each part of your story/highlight? Go to search bar, search up ‘music’ then select ur music.
  • Anything I should avoid while creating my Insta page? Toxic ppl
  • How do I link another post in my story that others can go to and see for themselves (example: showing a how to draw post on your own story)? Press the paper plane by the pose to repost to ur story :heartbeat:
  • Often, I see Episode accounts that link posts on their stories that have to do with serious issues (like animal abuse and such). Do I have to do that. Am I a bad person if I don’t bring up at least one issue that others should be aware of? … depends. I prefer not to repost stuff like that but if u do also add that it’s animal abuse as a warning.
  • How is it possible that certain authors get millions of reads in their stories? Is it just because of Instagram? Mafia story + art I guess :woman_shrugging:t3:
  • Anything else I should know? Goodluck :sparkles:

  1. It doesn’t really matter, I started with a cover for my upcoming story but it doesn’t really matter too much
  2. Make them stand out whether u do that by using loads of colour or whether u do that some other way just make them look eye-catching
  3. These are important things or posts u want people to find
  4. For sneak peaks & updates follow my Instagram at @______
  5. I’m not sure since I haven’t tried (:
  6. Boring, not too interesting etc
  7. I’m not sure since I haven’t tried (:
  8. I do not to repost stuff like that but if u do make sure to add a warning slide before the post
  9. No, it all depends on luck most of the time. Some people have great stories but don’t get noticed that much whereas others get lucky and get widely noticed
  10. I don’t think so (:

GOOD LUCK! (:

  1. An introduction? I just posted screenshots of my fav stories so it doesn’t really matter.
  2. Really depends what you are posting. You will have to find a theme that relates to you. And make that the focus.
  3. Storing important stories
  4. You can use it for sharing others posts, messages e.g. sneak peaks, updates…
  5. To add music, go to the face then go onto music, search for music and click on it you can then change what part of the song you want to use.
  6. Causing/engaging in drama.
  7. There is a little arrow to use (it looks like a paper plane)
  8. People respect you if you do and you might get " called out" if you don’t but if you don’t mean it then don’t do it.
  9. They use Instagram to promote but it won’t be the only reason.
  10. Nothing I can think of.

While I personally do not have an Author Instagram account, these are things I noticed and appreciated from the accounts I do follow.

At least one post introducing yourself. Add the name of any stories you’ve already published (don’t expand on them). Fun facts about yourself, what inspired your name (if you are using a made up name/username). You could add your birthday but you don’t have to.

Stick to the colour scheme and overall theme of the story (genre). If your story is historical, use fonts and things that fit the period of your story.

Stick to the colours of the cover of your story if it makes it easier.

Or most importantly, put the word “UPDATE” on the first picture. That usually grabs attention really easily.

You can save stories that show your completed works. The frequently asked questions. Artworks from followers (it’s the easiest way to give them credit from what I’ve seen). Stories you recommend and make sure to tag the authors!

  • Update countdown

  • Q&As

  • sharing posts of upcoming stories of the authors you follow.

  • sharing posts from other authors about their updates

It’s a regional thing. This feature is old but I still can’t access it. So I can’t give advice on this.

Clutter, probably. Keep it organised.

The plane icon next to the comment icon.

There are people that like to keep what they do IRL in private. While you don’t have to share posts like these, don’t be surprised if someone that is more public says something about you not posting. I follow authors that share daily and authors that don’t at all.

You can tell the kind of person the authors is by the works they produce. I can pick out the values authors have from their stories and that’s enough for me.

No, it’s not just instagram but it does help. The most easy way I’ve noticed to get many followers is to be consistent with your updates. Update regularly enough and your reads will increase.

Join contests (both Episode official ones and the ones by non-official Episode groups).

I found my favourite author on the platform because they joined the EpyAwards contest last year. And I follow EpyAwards so I gave their story a try and here I am.

Since everyone else has pretty much answered your questions (and I agree with them) I’ll add a few points that may be handy if you ever do join Insta as an author:

  • Be consistent.
  • Be active.
  • Have a nice aesthetic.
  • Provide quality content.
  • Engage with followers.
  • Have thick skin.

The rest will come naturally and you’ll get very used to it. (:

Instagram is pretty tricky. It seems to me that the main thing is to have activity and interesting content.

Bump!
