How to make a battle system?

I mean this: The player has gained weapons, if the weapon they have gained is common, which is the first weapon they gain when they are attacking the enemy with the weapon, they have a 50% chance to hit the enemy with the weapon and 50% chance not. I already know how to do the battle system, I just don’t know how to do the 50% chance part.

Couldn’t you use character points? If they got enough, then they have the skill to hit the monster, but if they don’t have enough, then they cannot defeat the monster :thinking:
