This topic will be updated frequently until I finish my artwork but I thought I’d take you along and show you how I do it!

The process will be split into different section so it’s easier to understand!
sketching
Base shape of body
Here is where I create a simple pose by using a triangle as the base of the chest and circles for the arms, legs and head. This stage is very simple and rough.
- remember the first few sketches can be as rough as you want!
Basic blocked details.
This is the stage of the sketching process where I add the basic details like the dress, hair, facial proportions.
Blocking more details
Next I begin the block out the basic eye shapes, nose, lips, chest shapes.
- this part is still very rough and will be changed a lot!
Complex sketch
This is the part where the sketch has a lot more detail and the final sketch stage before line art!
Line art
This is the last part of the basic sketching stage where I use the previous sketch to neaten the overall look and proportions.
The next section is on lighting placement.
This section is not finished yet as I have not finished the artwork yet so lighting has not been fully added yet.

Lighting sketch
At this stage I like to add some arrows and lines to show myself where I want shadows and the light to hit the body.
This stage is the easiest and you can change as much as you want throughout this is just a rough guideline as to where you want shadows.
At this current stage it takes around 2 hours for everything so far.
Hair shading and details…

The hair has taken me 5hours 45mins (it’s a new style!)
Basic colour blocking
When shading hair you want to add some basic shadows and shapes in so it’s not so flat!
I like to blend them and leave them at the end so it adds some depth underneath also.
Layering
I like to layer the different colours with a basic shape shown in the next picture…
I use this shape a lot!
Keep layering
I just keep going over the previous colours I have added while adding more layers.
ALWAYS START WITH YOUR DARKEST COLOURS FIRST!
This is so the lightest colours are more prominent.
Hair is not even
Hair is definitely not even!
You can add different lengths and curls to it to give it more texture! I love doing this!
I usually add smaller curls sticking from the side to show the layers of the hair.
Lighting
My last step for hair is to add the final lighting!
This is my favourite step as I can experiment more and add different colours to the hair to show lighting shades!
