I’m having trouble with putting this hairstyle into any category.
I have 4 categories so far (I assigned a point to each one of these; so when there’s a flashback, the MC’s hair will have the same texture as originally.)

I would call it straight with maybe a bit of body to the hair. Just bc people with super straight hair generally have a harder time keeping it in a braid. Same with curly hair and Wavy hair. My while family has super straight hair and cannot keep our hair in braids for the life of us

If I was putting it in a CC template, I’d call it “multi-categorized” or “other” since it fits multiple categories.
I think it can be anything tbh. The double dutch braids are a versatile hairstyle imo
I see this as a more protective hairstyle. A lot of my Black Friends wore this style growing up. I’m pretty sure it was because it was easier for their parents (most of them were impatient and so were their moms lol). But that’s just my input ◡̈
I agree with the others, essentially any of those hair types could be braided into that hairstyle. I have rather straight hair, and I’ve had my hair braided like that a few times, but so could someone who has more wavy hair, curly hair or otherwise. 
It could be every texture. I would not limit this hairstyle to any type of hair.
