I am a noob and I have questions! Need a little help :0

  • How should I upload backgrounds? I’ve read the guideline and have watched youtube videos, and Joseph Evans videos on backgrounds and some of the websites for backgrounds with no copyright do not have the best backgrounds to work with (in my opinion)And I’m trying to avoid getting sued and still be able to use beautiful backgrounds without spending money? :no_mouth:
  • Would readers enjoy the story even if it didn’t have CC or do most readers prefer CC stories?
  • What is the best, easiest way to make your own cover when you have 0 experience or artistic talent at all?
  • What should I avoid?
  • What’s the cuss limit for an episode?
  • I’ve read some stories that have high maturity levels, but in guidelines asks for no bullying or high rated R stuff. What is exactly the limit for that without getting my story banned? (especially for the cuss limit)
  • any advice?

advice i could give is dont be afraid to ask for help. And when you do post your story dont worry about the amount of reads. And get a second person to read your story and have them give their HONEST opinion

Backgrounds

A lot of people who make backgrounds have drives, PM me, and I’ll send you a few of them, they work pretty well with stories, but it is very important that you credit

CC
  • Would readers enjoy the story even if it didn’t have CC or do most readers prefer CC stories?

It’s about 50/50, some don’t some do, so there are maybe 2 things you can do, add it to the end, or give the reader the choice of whether or not they want to customize. One of the other reasons you’d add cc at the end is so the reader can get a feel for the character’s look so they can decide whether or not they want to customize. And if you add CC and the reader doesn’t like it, make sure you have a good story to make up for it.

Art
  • What is the best, easiest way to make your own cover when you have 0 experience or artistic talent at all?

You could take tutorials, or practice a lot. If you still can’t draw you can make edits, and touch them up to look drawn, I can also send you some good art shops if you want

What to avoid
  • What should I avoid?

Cringey scenes, moving too fast, moving too slow 100 LIs, weak MC, etc. Also the MC who is super independent until the LI comes along and then she gets super weak, and can’t even handle herself. Also try to make the MC realistic, and not flawless, everyone has flaws. Try to avoid using excessive gem choices, as well as really overpriced choices, like 25 gems for CC. And some cliché’s are good, but try not to make you’re story just like every other story, you know? Also don’t make your story all over the place like a perfume commercial, like the MC is drinking her lemonade and she’s single, and then she’s at the club, and then she’s crying over a breakup, and then she’s getting married to her hamster, and then her best friend is her sister, and her cousin is her 5th aunt 13 times removed, and then the LI is licking a goat passionately , and it’s just all around nonsense, your reader won’t even try to understand wtf is going on, and will probably stop reading. I can also give you a link on that if you want

Cuss Limit
  • What’s the cuss limit for an episode?

There’s no cuss limit per se, but when you add curse words that could be considered curse words make sure to…I can’t think of the word what it’s called, the star thing, as in sh*t.

PG
  • I’ve read some stories that have high maturity levels, but in guidelines asks for no bullying or high rated R stuff. What is exactly the limit for that without getting my story banned? (especially for the cuss limit)

When adding sensitive scenes like Assault, abuse etc. always be sure to add trigger warnings, always. Also try to use them before diving into a ‘steamy scene’ and make sure if possible the reader can choose whether or not they want to read that scene. And also remember that Episode is a 13+ app, so don’t go too crazy

Advice
  • any advice?
Clichés are pretty much impossible to avoid. And they’re not all bad, why do you think they’re clichés, people like them, but don’t go too overdrive, like ‘I fell in love with my brother’s best friend’ and that’s it, no twists, no turns, no obstacles along the way, you’re just in love with him and that’s it, try to put your own twist on a classic cliché. Also when you’re creating your MC, try to make her/him relatable, if I’m not connected to my character and say she goes through some life-altering experience, like getting hit by a car 5 times, I’m not going to care, I’ll probably just be like ‘good riddance’ because like I said, I have to feel connected, I have to be able to relate in one way or another, she has to be realistic to where I can be like 'oh yeah, I could see that happening. And lastly when/if you have ‘support me’ at the end, try to make it a reasonable price, like 5-15 somewhere around there, because if someone goes crazy with the gems as in 50 gems for your clothes, and 50 gems for your hair, and like, ‘oh your boyfriend saved you what do you do, pay 50 gems to say thank you, or call him a stalkish creep for free’ That’ll make me stop reading almost immediately, cuz that’s some episode featured stuff. Also credit is really really really important you have to make sure to always use credit where it’s due, because if you don’t use credit, the person could complain that you didn’t credit them, and your story may be taken down. And if possible, get an IG, and oyu can post sneak peeks, and updates for your readers. Also I’d advise using tappables, and menu templates, also a skip chapter option

I know that was a lot lol sry. PM me on here with any questions, or DM me on my insta @april.writess, and when you begin writing, I’ll be happy to help with coding!

Your post is kind of off topic, I’ll PM you

Backgrounds - Good places to get quality backgrounds is Instagram, there are plenty of free drives out there as long as you comply to their rules which is basic decency usually

CC - The thing is a few readers attack you for not having CC if you choose to not include it. CC is a big thing for me because I usually don’t like the basic look of most MC’s and LI’s but since joining the forums I have noticed a lot of people skip it and don’t care for it.

Covers - You can either take a screenshot from your story and then put a filter on it. Although there is alternatives such as getting someone to custom edit a cover for you or getting an artist from an art shop or a epi group on Instagram.

Things to avoid - one word :sparkles: Mafia :sparkles: . Also another thing to avoid is making toxic behaviours romantic and how they show their love. No, Mr Matcho Man is not showing his love when he sl*t shames you for wearing anything that is not 7 coats on top of each other and baggy trousers.

Swearing - Don’t think there is one as long as every word is censored e.g. b*tch

Limits on topics - I would say first if you are going to bring up sensitive put a trigger warning even if you feel it doesn’t need one. Always ask when you bring up any topics you think might need one or might upset someone.

Advice? - Ask questions when unsure most of us are friendly and want to help. :upside_down_face:
