I understand the appeal with criminal stories because most of us don’t want to actually delve into that world and would rather play a game or read story. What I don’t understand is the romantic appeal involved with gang leaders. Personally, I don’t think I could date someone like that in real life or in a book. Sorry nope. Never ever.

I actually find the history behind organized crime very fascinating.
However, I’m not a fan of reading stories about them. Especially because I feel like a lot of authors are sneaking it into their stories, because they think it’s what’s on trend now.
If I want to read about the mafia, I’ll look for a mafia story. Don’t force it on me.

Not only do I not understand the appeal, but I find it so incredibly unrealistic.
You do not just randomly bump into a gang leader, or a mafia boss in the alleyway of some random cheap club you and your friends coincidently decided to go to. Do these writers have any idea what actual mafias are about? Do they know how rare they are? Do they know that they are not roaming around us regular citizens? Are they aware how ridiculous “Mafia Gang Leader” sounds? Mafias and Gangs are not even the same thing 
There’s just so many questions I have for the people publishing this content.

If they’re the billionaires that these stories describe them as, they’re most definitely not around us lol. If they are that wealthy they are apart of an elitist society, and unless the mc is also incredibly rich the chances of her bumping into them are incredibly low. But you’re right, if they do somehow miraculously find you they will definitely get rid of you

But yeah, it’s not as simplistic as the authors here make it seem.
Fun fact: my mother was on jury selection for a Mexican Mafia case. She had to be escorted to her car. Shit’s serious.

I think people like that type of story because they are unrealistic. I mean you can read any story and it could actually happen and all but I believe the unrealistic version of life people are drawn too because you can’t actually do whatever it’s about. People typically want what they can’t have and that story line is something that’d probably never happen. I don’t really understand why you’d want life to be that way, but I think the unrealistic-ism of it makes people drawn to it. If any of that makes sense.

Yeah it was when I was really young. ( EDIT: I thought it was before i was born. it was bugging me and I asked her about it again lol) She told me the first time I had to go, she was like “hey it could be fun” lol

I do get that, the whole concept of falling in love with a gang leader is already the unrealistic part. However I don’t think the entire storyline and plot has to be. Usually the entire premise of the relationship is filled with so many unrealistic cliches making it so difficult to read.

And that’s the point I’m making, for some unknown reason people want that ‘cute’ romantic turning the cold hearten gang leader good or soft. Usually the gang story’s are just unrealistic as a whole.

Exactly! It makes sense, a lot of people are attracted to the dangerous mysterious man you should be afraid of, but you’re drawn to 
but come on? A gang leader? They’re not remorseful and wouldn’t hesitate to harm you if you cross them. You can’t change them over night and that’s not your duty to do so

Yep. One of my biggest pet peeves. The pressure on women to change distasteful men for the better it is not your responsibility, and people need to stop romanticizing it.
