For 9 months I’ve been writing episode stories.
But personally I didn’t get the reads I wanted to get.
I didn’t expect to get over 100,000 reads or be ranked higher than 50 in drama or have thousands of followers on instagram but I wanted to come a basic successful small episode author. But sadly that’s not what I got. I spend hours a day for 9 months writing and writing hoping that my hard work will get me somewhere with read for reads as much as I can. I honestly think that my directing is not too bad?
Same with the storyline and characters.
I’m grateful for the reads I have but I feel like it isn’t enough for me to keep on working. I’m a high school student who has enough on my plate already. Should I continue???
ME PERSONALLY I THINK,
No, dont keep writing. Not in a way to discourage you lets just make that clear. I mean it as in a way for you to maybe take a break. You cant force yourself to write. Its never a good idea to force yourself to do anything, i feel like when people do that the outcome is rarely the best it can be. You said it yourself you’re a high school student who has enough on her plate. Focus on that…make writing on episode a hobby not a job. plus maybe when you come back you have more ideas
ps: hope that doesnt sound harsh
I’m sure a lot of people are going to say you should write for yourself and not to think about the reads, but I think it’s more important to ask yourself if you still have the inspiration and motivation to write? If you still have ideas for your story and still want to bring it to life on the app, then you may as well continue writing… You may need to focus on school more and write a little less because of that, but if you still have the idea, don’t give up on it yet
No it doesn’t sound harsh at all I completely understand.
I love writing and I love my story.
I just feel like I’m not getting anywhere with it
Thank you very much for your advice!
Thank you
I still do have the motivation!
I love writing and I will always try to work on school more than episode
Thank you for your advice
Yeah like me right now ive been saying ima write a story…and bam nada, i started but im just stumped to im not even bothering with it rn so im just on the forums trying to help people or doing outline contest…and whenever i get and idea i just get my journal and write it down…then when i feel ready i’lll just go thru my journal and get inspiration…even if they are stupid ideas from my freewrites
Yeah I totally understand where your coming from!
As a new author and coder, I can really understand where you are coming from. Honestly, the situation in episode does seem bleak when you see some stories with generic storylines/ poor directing clinch the top positions with thousands of reads. (No offence.) I do believe that things such as reads take second place as compared to your love for your own story. Maybe you should take a break before continuing? I mean we only started our story when we had a very long holiday break from our studies. Focus on your life first, don’t spend too much time on episode when the system isn’t the best for new authors. Continue in your free time.
Thank you
I’m planning to take a break for at least a few weeks before going on with writing so I can focus on school for a little while.
Thanks for the advice
I think your goals are a little unrealistic. Like, I understand wanting views and reads, but there are 5.5 million registered author accounts on Episode (I’ll post links to that stat later). There are hundreds, or even thousands, of people out there trying to get up to rank 50 just like you!
I’m not going to tell you to write for yourself. I am going to tell you that you probably aren’t going to get where you want to be if you focus so hard on reads
I understand
By the way I was using rank 50 as an example
Reads is definitely not the only thing important to me!
Thanks for your advice!
What have you done to get reads? Have you done all of the steps on here?
@ShanniiWrites is a pretty modest author on Episode. She’s got over 200k reads on The Queen of Freaks, so if that’s the kinda success you’re looking for, her blog might help!
From what I’ve read I done most of them.
I might post other authors stories tho that’s quite a good idea.
Avoid R4R, too! It’s not going to get you loyal readers
As a new author who can’t write stories to save her life I felt the same way, you can’t force yourself to get motivated but you can always try and get ideas. Take this for instance I listen to music and I edit a lot and make art scenes so I tend to get a lot of inspiration. Set a goal for yourself and work towards that goal little by little you can make it. I’m sure your story is amazyn and you’ll get way more reads!
unfortently getting reads is not so much about a good story. its getting people to read. by showing the story off. and do r4r. honeslty i dont undertsand the ones who can get thons of reads
but you should keep writhing. dont write for the readers but for you
I’ve been in the same situation as you. I cannot tell you the amount of stories I’ve discontinued during my Episode life during the last 3 years. It’s heartbreaking to not gain as many readers (loyal readers at that) on your story. I’m guessing that you’re first starting out as a new episode author? If so, the pressure is on you. You have emotions and feelings in your head that you can’t shake off, and one of them has to be discouragement. I wouldn’t doubt it if you didn’t put your heart into your story.
Don’t give up! I constantly told myself that during my writing life, and I am still telling myself that till this day. I get it; other authors’ stories are taking off and they are very successful. That can really mess up a small author’s dreams and goals for their story at times. I’ve been there. Continue writing, continue putting your heart in to it. One day it’ll pay off; trust me If you need help, I’d be more than welcome to help.
Read for reads won’t get you loyal readers and supporters by the way.
I can relate. I started my story in December and I’ve changed it several times and haven’t published it yet. Sometimes for motivation I write my ideas down, listen to music, and think about the success and happiness it could bring me. I think for right now, you should take a break. I did it and now I’m back on track. Hope you continue writing! What is your story called?
How many episodes does your story have and how long has it been published for? (You said you’ve been writing for nine months, but I don’t know if your story has been on the app for that long.) It can definitely be difficult getting reads as a new author, especially if you have less than ten episodes. You tend to see that stories often pick up momentum as the number of episodes grow (especially if they’re updated quickly).
To your original question- are you still enjoying writing? My first story didn’t do well at all (and in retrospect, it was terrible and didn’t deserve to lol), but I was proud of what I’d created and I used to read through it myself lol. If you still actually enjoy writing, then I would keep going. Like I mentioned above- you may find your reads increase as you continue to update and your story grows.
