I need help. The character name is displayed incorrectly

#1

Hey together,

I have a problem with on of my characters.
I gave him the name NOAH.

Due to an accident I also called a decision NOAH since then the name is no longer displayed correctly. Can someone help me please :frowning:

#2

Did you try to rename him in the portal? Else I think you need to change the choice’s name.

#3

Thank you for your message :slight_smile:
I already changed the name of the decision and it’s normal in the portal.

But it is still displayed incorrectly.

#4

Are you testing the story on your phone? Maybe you need to create a new save for you story if it’s the case. And is your story already published?

#5

Yeah, at the phone it doesn’t work. In the writer portal it looks normal.
My story is already published :frowning:

#6

I’m sorry I’m not sure I understood, english’s not my first language. Does it appear correctly when you test the story on you computer?

#7

Yes, it’s right on the computer. The name is displayed incorrectly on the phone.

#8

This is on computer:

And this on the phone:

In that case you need to create a new save file on your phone. Though, the readers will still see the weird name. I don’t know if there are other solutions but you can try to change your character’s name. You can put NOA instead of NOAH maybe?

#10

Wait no. Have you already published the episode with the choice called “NOAH”?

#11

This episode is published but this change is new and I haven’t published it like that yet.

#12

Then the readers won’t see the error in the name. Just be sure you have changed the choice name. And if you don’t want to see the bug on your phone you have to create a new save file

#13

Can you tell me how to do that?

#14

On the app, click on your story and just before or while you’re playing it, clink on the three dots and tap replay

#15

It worked. Thanks a thousand times. You saved my day. <3

#16

You’re welcome! Don’t hesitate to ask if you need something else! :wink:

#17

Glad this got resolved! Closing :v:t2:

On a side note, I believe you wrote something like this:

choice (NOAH)
“I’d like to get to know you”{

    NOAH (talk_happy_agree)
I'd like to get to know you.

}“I don’t want to get to know you”{

    NOAH (talk_happy_agree)
I don't want to get to know you.

}“No response”{

NOAH (idle)

}

NARRATOR (NOAH)
The way I greeted them is awesome.

When you do this, it changes the name in brackets, in this case, NOAH into whatever choice the reader picks, whether it be I’d like to get to know you or I don’t wanna know you or no response.

It would be better to write something like this:

choice (fav_greeting)
“I’d like to get to know you”{

    NOAH (talk_happy_agree)
I'd like to get to know you.

}“I don’t want to get to know you”{

    NOAH (talk_happy_agree)
I don't want to get to know you.

}“No response”{

NOAH (idle)

}

NARRATOR (NOAH)
The way I greeted them is awesome.

And then somewhere later on in the script:

if (fav_greeting is “I’d like to get to know you”) {

GIRL (talk_happy_smile)
I’m glad you greeted us nicely.

} elif (fav_greeting is “I don’t want to get to know you”) {

GIRL (talk_angry)
Well, I don’t want to get to know you since you don’t want to know me.

} else {

GIRL (talk_neutral)
So rude, you gave us no response jerk.

}

And yeah, pretty much this XD

I’m glad everything was solved though!
