I need help with my points system. It isn't working

Hi everyone! I’m making a points system for my episode story and I’m not quite sure about how to code the points system. I plan on having the reader gain influence points and points with the LI. I’m not completely sure if I’d let their readers check points if I can’t get the point calculation down but I do hope to make the choices impactful.

Can someone help me out? Attached below is a screenshot and the code.

NARRATOR
Would you like to view your points?

choice
“INFLUENCE”
{
if (Influence = 1) {

NARRATOR
You have 1/1 Influence Points

} elif (Influence = 0) {
NARRATOR
You have 0/1 Influence points.
}}

“NOLAN” {
if (NOLAN = 1) {

NARRATOR
You have 1/1 Nolan Points

} elif (Nolan = 0) {
NARRATOR
You have 0/1 Nolan points.
}}

}

These are the choices I have so far if anyone was wondering!

First, it will be easier just by adding point, without gaining flags!
Just make a character named INFLUENCE to make it easier and when reader gain point simply add @INFLUENCE +1 or @ NOLAN +1, you don’t need to add gain point!

You will find easy way to show readers how many point they have here:

Ahh tysm, how would I make an option for the reader to see their points at the end?

I also added @ NOLAN +1 in the code in the comment section, is that the right way to do it?

Go to the character creation tab and then, in the search bar label, find the long list of numbers. Have the narrator say “You have [number from the link] points”

ohh, thank you is there a way where I can say you have — points/— points available?

Hello,

NARRATOR
Would you like to view your points?

choice
"Yes, please" {
NARR
You have [CHARACTER-NUMBER] point(s).
} "No, thank you." {

}

Find the character number on the character creation section on your portal, where the character number is found at the end of the site URL.

Ex:

https://www.episodeinteractive.com/write/character/._9UdJ/ 5203782022397952

The numbers in bold, is what you’d need to copy and put in place of the CHARACTER-NUMBER in the template above, and keep the [ ].

Yes.
@NOLAN +1

Thank you so much!!

Ofcourse! If you need any help in the future, or run into any errors, then feel free to reach out to me through PM for help. :bat::hearts:

I did it but it’s showing the character numbers instead of the calculated points:

I figured it out! It was because they would’ve = 0 so I just added a couple extra points throughout the story. Thanks for your help!

Or instead of that, you could do;

if (NOLAN = 0) {

NARR
You have 0 Nolan points.

} else {
You have [CHARACTER NUMBER] points.
}

Thank you! :slight_smile:

At the beginning of your story you can set

@NOLAN =0

then you don’t have to do an if/else before displaying the characters points.
