Idea's for non-cliche MCs/Characters/Love Interests

Since a lot of threads similar to the idea of “What do you want to see in stories” and “Unlikable MCs” get closed due to weeks of inactivity, here’s a better idea:

MC:

Unlucky MCs who can’t seem to keep anything until they realize that maybe being unlucky isn’t so bad. (For example: Unlucky Lucky MC)
LGBTQ+ MC who is more than their sexuality/gender/orientation.
MCs with mental health conditions and diseases
The envious MC who slowly starts to fall in love with herself bc she doesn’t need someone to tell her that she’s beautiful for her to believe it.
Flirty MC bc she runs away from her problems and now has to deal with the consequences.
The MC who learns how to fight because she fought off her older brother’s bullies when she was younger.
Muslim MCs who aren’t sexualized, oppressed, or ridculed.
Arab MCs who aren’t used as a rebound for comedy purposes.
The femme fatale who isn’t proud of killing people, who isn’t “seductive” 24/7.
Latinx/Spanish/Italian characters who aren’t only mentioned when the story is about gangs.
The shy MC who overcomes her shyness but doesn’t become cocky.
Or the shy MC who stays shy, but is a really fun and caring person once you get to know them. But secretly they’re fighting their inner demons too.
A bigoted MC who grew up bigoted, but grows up realizing that is wrong and has to look back at the enviroment they grew up in.
The black MC who depends on other people, because they aren’t always “independent”
A male MC who has close guy friends, and is comfortable with them.
More male MCs in general
The MC who promises to change the world so that people don’t have to suffer the way they did
The MC who is geniunely not interested in the LI at the beginning of the story, but that slowly changes due to experiences with them outside of their control.
The unattractive/basic/average MC who isn’t all so pretty or handsome, but they’re confident in themselves.
The MC who is content with themselves and mentally healthy bc not all MCs have to have a horrible mental state to be relatable
The MC who’s had past relationships and they’re not so innocent.

Main-Character/Side-Characters:

A feminine who supports non-feminine characters.
A feminine who is a black-belt in karate, or a captain in a sports teams, or “masculine”
A Jock who is actually really smart and hosts tutorings.
A person who has random knowledge of things that are useful later on in the story.
A popular kid who has interest in “nerdy things”
A person who is not good at something at first, but progressively gets better.
A masculine/feminine person who isn’t apart of LGBTQ bc being masculine/feminine has nothing to do with sexuality.

Love interests (LI):

An LI who isn’t jealous over the MC wearing something exposing, because he trusts her enough to let her wear what she wants
An LI who is more innocent than the MC bc not every attractive MC has to be dirty-minded.
An LI who doesn’t condone cheating, (aka if he’s with someone, he isn’t fawning over the MC) bc he’s in a relationship and if he can cheat on his partner, then who said he can’t cheat on the MC?
An LI who isn’t athletic AF even though they’re a nerd, or literally do nothing to get them into that shape.
An LI who asks for CONSENT before making a move on the MC, (“Can I kiss you?”) bc tbh its much cuter when someone asks. Or even non-verbal cues works too.
An LI who loves his family, and would do anything for them. Say, if his family has a bad feeling about the MC, maybe he doesn’t question their judgement, instead of fighting it because his family knows him best.
An LI who has an actually decent past, and isn’t full of sob stories. Like c’mon, not everybody’s parents died in war, or whatever.
An LI who respects the MCs personal space and doesn’t force the MC to do things she doesn’t want to do, as much as some of y’all love LIs who do.
An LI who needs to be saved by the MC, not vice versa.

Characters who aren’t perfect. But they’re trying to be better than what they were yesterday.

Because that’s what’s relatable. :yay: :sparklewave:

I like strong mcs, by that I mean, if they get slapped around the face they ain’t gonna stand there like:
:eye::lips::eye:
:droplet: :droplet:
Also I like when the li isn’t a complete b*tch, and isn’t in the usual “mafia or gang”. Because I know damn well that all of y’all wouldn’t date no mafia-killing mob boss in rl-
Just a few thoughts of mine. :relieved::cupid:
Also tyy for the tag babes

Girl :sob::sob::skull::skull:
I’m sorry but I don’t like mafia stories, I don’t think I will. It’s the fact that the li usually kills one of the mcs family members and the mc is like: :heart_eyes:.
Like bish grow tf up. :skull:

THATS so TRUE! It also pisses me off when a side character or something withheld information from the group and decides to hide it, KNOWING it would cost them their life or put them in danger. Like at that point that character is USELESS. Even my dumb self wouldn’t have done that.

A person who knows their mistakes and tries fixing them, even when the whole world seems against them!
A person who explains their side of the argument calmly and diesn’t argue over petty things!

ikr! It’s usually the LI that kills either someone important or like some random creep that even STARES at the MC
and she’s just like  :see_no_evil:

like no, that’s not cute :skull:

a mc who doesn’t act brain dead when people are trying to tell them something. Like the mc actually listens instead of thinking whatever they have to say is automatically right because they are the ones who think it :skull:

PLEASE we need more characters like this. I’d enjoy characters who are close-minded at first but then they are more open to the idea that maybe not everything is as black and white as it seems, and maybe they’re in the wrong.

God, I wonder why some people don’t do this irl. Like I hate it from the bottom of my heart when the MC starts screaming at the LI like “oH TheRe’S A PicTure oF yOU anD heR” and they don’t even give the LI a chance to explain. Like damn, let him/her atleast CONFIRM it, wtf. He could’ve been piss drunk, you have no idea what happened.

I wish :sob: this goes for the MCs who think that stealing the LIs partner is right, bc wtf. Also, your MC can be stubborn but ATLEAST listen to what the other person has to say and not brush it off. Like i’d never be friends with someone like that irl. If they’re disrespectful, give them a damn reason that ISN’T because they’re “orphaned” :skull:

DEADASSS :skull: everyone has a sob story. just because your an orphan doesn’t mean you get to shit on other ppl . sit back down nd keep your mouth :sparkles: shut :sparkles: babe

Let me expand on this one,
so basically what I mean (bc maybe its a bit confusing for some) is that the MC breaks up with his/her ex, but they think that they’re unlucky bc constant “bad” things are happening to them, when in reality they’ve been dodging bullets, (so like their ex was cheating) and maybe their flight was cancelled, but actually the airplane crashed later that afternoon. So in reality, they’re lucky, but to them, they think they’re unlucky.

fr! like girl JUST because your parents died doesn’t give you a right to disrespect other ppl, that just gives a bad name to people who are orphaned irl. if you really wanna combat that, then i would introduce another orphan character who puts the MC in their place. it’s all deserving at that point.

also why tf does atleast 80% of stories characters have no parents? what’s going on? :sob: :skull: like look at what you could do with characters other than the “dead parents” trope:

divorced parents
single mom/dad
single mom/dad whos married/engaged/dating
adopted parents
extended family is taking care of MC
“dead parents”, but you do meet them later on
abandoned parents (they abandoned the MC)
incapable mom/dad (drug abuse, substance abuse, e.t.c)
custody fight
MC living by themselves
MC living with a single guardian
difficult relationship between MC and parent
taken by force (gives motivation for MC)
tough & lonely upbringing
an absent or unknown parent that is brought up later on in the story

like seriously, not all parents have to be “dead” or “out of town”, sometimes they can have massive roles in the story. such as, being the villain, disapproving MCs relationship, good advice teller, e.t.c

it’s a easy route for the author to explain why the mc acts so crappy or why they are murderers or in gangs. Then the author will say that they do it so they can get “revenge” on their deaths or whatever. Authors are just getting real lazy and cliche at this point :skull:

i agree. there’s so much you can do with the parent trope, and some people aren’t taking full advantage of the capabilities and plot opportunities it offers. it also craps on people who have no parents, or never met them, and it’s something we need to get rid of immediately unless people start to use it right. :grimacing: :skull:

right. the same thing with mental illness. omg literally what is people’s problem and romanizing or incorrectly representing mental illness ? like it rlly isn’t hard to open up google nd do some research :skull:
