Spanish - I don’t remember any I learned so it would be nice to get into it again. :slightly_smiling_face:
French - It would make school easier. :woman_shrugging:
Polish - One of my friends is Polish and it would be interesting to know what they are saying when we sleep over. One time me and this other girl spilled water on my friend and they started talking in Polish. We had no clue what they were saying but my friend said things were fine and her mum wasn’t mad. :grimacing: Also it would be cool to talk to her and my other ā€œfriendā€ not knowing what we are saying. :smirk:
Italian since I have seen so many people on the forums talk in it.

Spanish! I love the language and started learning it a few months ago, but I am so bad at it
English, I have a CAE diploma, but I still struggle with some words
Portugese, It sounds so lovely
Italian, I want to visit Italy and be able to speak the language!

German and Japanese as they’re the ones I’m currently studying. But I’d like to be fluent in Arabic and probably Chinese too because they’re becoming increasingly important internationally.

You guys flatter me hohoho

I literally see threads everywhere where you guys are talking and I want to know so bad what people are saying. I like to be in the know. :joy: I think it is so cool when people do it, I just wish I knew what you guys were saying.

Hmmm… Tough question, really. But I have some thoughts!

-German! My German has really suffered, and I can hardly speak it anymore. I’d love to be able to read in that language again, so that I can better study the Enlightenment period philosophers. Would be nice for my future doctorate, should I be picked for that.

-Chinese (Mandarin)! I’d love to dive deeper into Chinese history and philosophy, and knowing the language would be an amazing help. I’m not entirely sure which form Taoist philosophy is originally from, though.

-Japanese! Nevermind that I used to love anime, I find the country superfascinating otherwise. Especially the Edo and Heian periods in their history is full of big, cultural and philosophical traits, and I’d love to dive into that ^~^

-Russian! I’m sure you get the point by now, but being able to read and dissect Russian philosophy would be really nice! Yeah, I like philosophy!

Why the big focus on languages known for their philosophy (and not Greek)? There are hidden meanings you need to read the original pieces to actually grasp properly, and without knowing the language, that’s hard. A lot is lost in translation! As for Greek, the big philosophers’ works (Plato, Aristoteles) are already translated a million times, and it’s all ancient Greek anyways. Can’t use that during vacations!

We aren’t being intrusive, are we? :grimacing:
And ehhh it’s mostly us getting annoyed at mafia stories or stereotypes in general hahaha that’s most of what we talk about.

I don’t know specific reasons, but I wish I could be fluent in these

Oh, no @Malannee is going to flex on you for knowing Italian. :joy: It seems many people want to learn.

I do agree on that. I think it is particularly fascinating to study how Japan developed its identity through time from times as ancient as the Nara period till as recent as Showa and more. My favorite periods are definitely Ashikaga and Sengoku!

 I’m so pathetic in learning new languages. I find it hard to grasp. But due to Episode being such a multi-cultural platform, there’s use of different languages other than English too. So I’ve been picking on few words but sadly they’re all cuss :zipper_mouth_face::see_no_evil:

Lmaooo no guys :see_no_evil:

I think it’s definitely interesting to see so many people wanting to learn such a useless language (ā€˜useless’ as in, because it’s only spoken in Italy and parts of Switzerland, both of which are small countries), but I get the appeal. The only reason why I’m fluent is because I was born and raised here. There’s nothing to flex about if the effort was so minimal :hugs:

Spanish: I speak Spanish but not fluently.

Korean: So I can watch kdrama without subtitles.

Japanese: Same reason for the Korean one.

French: why not lol

Yeah, but that means I can talk in another language there is no chance that people I know will know. :smirk:

Mmh! Absolutely! The Sengoku is definitely interesting, even if we look away from the whole Civil War with the various religious uprisings, the opening of trade with the West and how their cultures meshed, and how it created the foundation of the more romanticized Samurai that we see in Edo-period art, literature and, of course, courts! And of course, the political drama!
