I'm having trouble with the car seat overlay

So I tried moving a character to the front of the car seat by clicking move to front and I even tried moving to back just incase, but it still doesn’t work.

Google Photos

is the overlay is with the backgroud

like:
int. background - day with overlay

Yes it is

okay that’s your issue, when it’s just like that the overlay is automatically at MAX LAYER
so what you need to do is write at layer # ← # being the layer number you want

so like:
INT. BACKGROUND - DAY with OVERLAY at layer #

Do you have to move the overlay instead of the person to get the layer number?

Giving the overlay a layer number just makes it so its not MAX LAYER (and this only happens if it’s written next to the background)
you can approach this however you want

you can either:

  1. make the layer number lower then the character
    ex:
    INT. BACKGROUND - DAY with OVERLAY at layer -1
    @character moves to layer 0

  2. set the overlay to 0 and change the character
    ex:
    INT. BACKGROUND - DAY with OVERLAY at layer 0
    @character moves to layer 1
